Memorandum For: Immediate Public release

Subject: Interment of previously unclaimed Veterans at the Fort
Jackson National Cemetery.

On 30 September 2016 at 11:00.Legionnaires from American Legion Post 193 of Chapin SC will at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery lay to rest the cremated remains of two previously unclaimed Veterans, Private, Joseph E. Redfern U.S Army and PVT, John G. Dunkley U.S. Marine Corps. Little is known about these two Veterans beyond the fact that they served their Country and that there is no family to lay them to rest with the honor and dignity they deserve. The American Legion, Patriot Guard and many other Veterans from across the State will ensure that these two receive the interment they deserve.

This interment is being supported by Veterans and community members from across the State of South Carolina the Kornegay & Moseley Funeral Home is providing the hearse and staff to transport the cremated remains of these heroes and Juveniles from the SC Department of Juvenile Justice have built the urns and will also attend the service.

The Cremated remains of these two Veterans will be es**rted to the Fort Jackson National Cemetery from American Legion Post 193, 102 Lexington Ave. Chapin SC, at 1020 hrs. by American Legion Riders and members of the Patriot Guard.

Chaplain Emeritus Tom Fincher will officiate at the ceremony, an Honor Guard from Fort Jackson, South Carolina the US Marine Corps and American Legion Post 71 North Augusta will provide Full Military Honors. The public is invited to attend.

For the SC Vietnam Veterans who never came home.

982 U.S. Military Personnel from South Carolina who served in Vietnam never came home. Help us honor them on the Yellow Ribbon Motorcycle Ride!

Assemble: 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 12, 2016
Spirit Communications Park (Home of the Columbia Fireflies)

**The first 982 riders (to register) will receive a packet with a Yellow Ribbon of a Fallen SC Vietnam Veteran.**

The police-es**rted motorcycle parade will depart at 11:00AM, going to the South Carolina Military Museum, 1 National Guard Road, Columbia, SC 29201.

There will be a Ceremony upon arrival at the Museum and the Yellow Ribbons will become part of a permanent Vietnam display at the Museum. A Vietnam film and free BBQ will follow the ceremony.

You may pre-register for a minimum donation of $10 at https://welcomehometocarolina.com/.

You may also donate more to help support this event if you'd like.

If you're among the first 982 riders to register, you'll receive a number from 1 to 982. Bring your receipt to registration on November 12th to pick up your packet. Unclaimed ribbons can be claimed at the registration site on Saturday.

If there are two riders on a motorcycle, both can register to carry a Yellow Ribbon. You can still ride and participate when all packets are given out. But everyone must register either online or at the registration site on the day of the event.

You do not need to ride a motorcycle to participate or to donate.

Please help us honor the Fallen from the Vietnam War.

Phase II of the event next year will honor the living from the Vietnam Era.

The inaugural Palmetto Warriors' Spirit 5k and Military/Veteran Family Appreciation Celebration will take place Halloween at American Legion Richland Post 6 on Pickens Street. After-race festivities include a live band, food & drink, kids games, prizes, and booths from a number of veterans' organizations here in Columbia.

Effective Friday, 16 JAN 15, all personnel are required to present their Department of Defense (DoD) identification credentials to gain access to Fort Jackson.

Proper DoD credentials include Military/Civilian CAC card, Dependant ID card, Retiree ID card, and Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) card or pass. Non-military affiliated individuals may be met at the gate and es**rted by Military/Civilian CAC card holders, dependant spouses and retirees. Individuals with DBIDS credentials are not authorized to es**rt.

Individuals not in possession of a valid DoD ID credential will be denied access onto Fort Jackson until they have been vetted. For unfettered access, individuals must have a reason to be on post, be sponsored, and be vetted/credentialed.

Non-military affiliated individuals requiring access onto FJ will need to visit the Visitor Control Center (VCC) at either Gate 2 (M-F, 0630-2100hrs, Sat 0730-1600) or the VCC at the Barker Bldg 4394 (M-F 0730-1600hrs)

For Family/Graduation Day visitors, G3 is publishing guidance through OPORD which will be enforced at the access control points.

All veterans who need help with claims please come to the Carolina Veterans Commission meeting at Haskell Baptist Church, 1231 Blue Ridge Terrace, Columbia, SC. They will be there on October 25th from 1300 through 1600.

McEntire Joint National Guard Base, SC



The front gate entrance, off of Garners Ferry Road, will be closed to all inbound and outbound starting on June 2, 2014 for seven months.

Drivers wishing to access McEntire will need to anticipate delays and use alternative gate locations and times during construction period. Travelers are advised to allow more time for their commute and exercise caution while navigating new traffic patterns.
