But effective parks and rec

reation facilities do not just happen on their own. They require professional care and financial support to keep them clean, safe and suitable for the community they serve. When citizens get involved with their parks and recreation systems, their quality of life improves. Parks and recreation opportunities encourage citizens to be engaged in their communities -- as volunteers, stewards, advocates and students. Investment in parks and recreation facilities should reflect their importance to our communities. Our health, our community, our economy and our environment all benefit from investments in parks and recreation opportunities.

Join us for the G.A. Pehrson UGT Richland walk. On Saturday, September 12, at 9:00 a.m., this volunteer-led walk will follow Richland's G.A. Pehrson Urban Greenbelt Trail (UGT), an urban path that encircles the central city. Along the way, we'll talk about the city's history and look at pictures of Richland in earlier days. There is no cost; however, pre-registration is required.

NOTICE: City Facilities Labor Day Closures

City of Richland facilities will be closed Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.

Closures include City Hall, the Richland Community Center, Richland Public Library, Horn Rapids Landfill and other City facilities.

Garbage collection will continue on its regular schedule. Residents should place garbage containers at the curb as usual on Monday.

Police, fire and other emergency services will continue to operate as usual throughout the holiday.

City facilities will reopen for regular business hours Tuesday, September 8.

Water to the Bypass Shelterbelt and Goethals Creek will be turned off for approximately one week beginning today, August 25, while maintenance repairs are completed.
