As many gather with family, enjoy backyard cookouts, spend time on the water, or travel to see loved ones this weekend, we also pause to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is not simply the unofficial start of summer. It is a day dedicated to honoring the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage, sacrifice, and devotion to something greater than themselves will never be forgotten.

Here, in a military community, these are not just names in history books. They were neighbors, friends, parents, children, classmates, and hometown heroes.

If you have a loved one who served & is no longer with us, we invite you to share their photo and name in the comments below so we may honor them alongside you.

As always, please remember -
🇺🇸 Drive sober
🇺🇸 Slow down & stay alert
🇺🇸 Wear your life jackets
🇺🇸 Watch for increased holiday traffic & motorcycles

From all of us at the Richland Police Department, we wish you a safe and meaningful Memorial Day weekend.

There is something deeply special about serving a small town. Not policing a place, or working a jurisdiction...but truly serving a community we know by name.

Because one day, we're handing a shy little kid a police sticker at a community event & before you know it, they’re walking across the graduation stage in a cap and gown.

We get to witness all of the little moments in between:
- Ballgames under the lights
- Christmas parades downtown
- Community events & school functions
- Sleepy morning coffee/gas station runs before class

Somehow, those moments become years that pass in the blink of an eye.

To the Richland High School Class of 2026:
Tonight is graduation night! Before you cross into this next chapter, we want to thank you for letting us be a small part of your story. It has been an honor to serve this town beside you and your families. Some of you are leaving Richland to chase big dreams. Some of you will stay here & build beautiful lives close to home. Both matter & are equally worthy, but no matter where life takes you next, just remember, this town will always claim you as one of its own.

Congratulations, graduates!
Drive safe & celebrate responsibly.

Listen, if you strike up a Facebook Marketplace deal with a man named “Tater”, and he is selling a “brand new” generator behind the storage units at 11 PM for forty bucks and a Mountain Dew...we assure you, that is not a clearance sale.

We know everybody loves finding a good deal, but we’ve seen an increase in stolen property reports involving tools, trailers, equipment, and items taken from unlocked vehicles, and unfortunately, some of those items end up right back on Facebook Marketplace or sold hand-to-hand around Pulaski County.

A good rule of thumb:
If the story sounds weird, the price sounds impossible, and the meetup location sounds like the beginning of a true crime documentary…walk away.

Don't forget:
- Lock your vehicles.
- Turn your porch lights on.
- Surveilance cameras are you friend.
- ...and for the love of all things good and holy, write down/take pictures of your serial numbers.

Shop smart & stay safe out there Richland.

T-Minus 48 HRS until the Richland High School Class of 2026 walks across the graduation stage. 🎓

Last Sunday, we happened to be in the area for a very different reason when we spotted Senior Sunset taking place nearby. So naturally…we had to stop in, crash the moment a little, and wish the seniors well on their next chapter.

You’ll see us again Friday night at graduation - keeping things safe & cheering loudly!

LETS TALK ABOUT IT
Small town habits die hard, and as the weather warms up, our officers begin hearing the age-old phrase:

“But it’s just down the road…”

Friends. Neighbors. Countrymen and women.

If your child is sitting on a cooler in the bed of a pickup rolling down Highway 133, we are once again asking you to make better - and legal - choices.

We know:
• “We’ve always done it.”
• “It’s a small town.”
• “We were only going a mile.”

Unfortunately:
• Gravity does not care how small Richland is.
• Pavement does not care how good of a driver you are.
• And “just down the road” is still enough distance for tragedy to happen.

Seatbelts save lives. Proper restraints matter. The back of a pickup truck is not a safe seating arrangement for children.

Please keep your tiny humans inside the vehicle and buckled appropriately. We enjoy waving at your kiddos at ballgames, school events, and around town. We’d prefer not to meet them professionally.

Additionally, your hard-earned money goes a lot further at Town & Country than it does at City Hall, because yes…you WILL be ticketed every time.

Stay safe, Richland.

A huge thank you to the Pulaski County FRSST (First Responder Stress Support Team) for stopping by Richland PD during National Police Week with goodies, encouragement, and of course, their Therapy Dog Honey, who was definitely the star of the visit.

This profession can be heavy, and support from organizations like PCRSST serve as an important reminder that no one carries that weight alone.

We are incredibly grateful for their continued support of first responders across our communities.

Recently, Richland PD hosted a POST Certified Radar Certification Class with officers from surrounding agencies in attendance.

This training was facilitated by one of our very own, Officer Armistead, and we are incredibly appreciative of the time, knowledge, and professionalism he brought to the class.

Training like this is an important part of keeping officers sharp, informed, and equipped to serve our communities safely and effectively. Opportunities to train alongside neighboring agencies not only strengthen our skills, but also the partnerships between our departments.

We look forward to hosting additional classes in the near future.

What is Hyper-Reach?
- Hyper-Reach is a mass notification system used to alert those in Pulaski County, Missouri of severe weather events, emergencies, & other critical incidents.

How Does Hyper-Reach Work?
- Anyone that signs up for Hyper-Reach can receive emergency notifications via text message, phone calls, & email.

What About Tornado Watches & Tornado Warnings?
- When the National Weather Service issues a tornado watch or tornado warning, Hyper-Reach will automatically notify you. Tornado watches & tornado warnings may not be countywide, so even if you’re in Pulaski County, you may not receive a Hyper-Reach watch or warning if you are in an area of the county where a threat is not present.

Is Hyper-Reach a Better Alternative to Storm Sirens?
- Storm sirens are designed to be heard when you are OUTDOORS, not indoors. Also, some areas of Pulaski County do not have storm sirens. Hyper-Reach & storm sirens are both public safety tools, but no one should rely solely on these systems to be weather aware. In addition to using Hyper-Reach & listening for storm sirens, you should monitor weather conditions, monitor official weather reports, & have an emergency plan in place BEFORE an emergency occurs.

How Much Does Hyper-Reach Cost?
- Hyper-Reach is free. All you have to do is sign up and select your notification settings – text, phone calls, email, or any combination of the three.

How Can I Get Hyper-Reach?
- Download the app, or sign up at http://hyper-reach.com/mopulaskisignup.html.
