Congratulations to PNNL atmospheric scientist Jim Mather who has been selected to receive the American Meteorological Society (AMS) Cleveland Abbe Award for Distinguished Service to the Atmospheric and Related Sciences.

The award recognizes Mather’s scientific impact and service to the ARM User Facility. Mather joined ARM in 1994 as a postdoctoral researcher and recently retired after 20 years as the user facility’s director. He will retire from PNNL this fall.

Let’s get energized about the power of fusion!

With the state of Washington poised to lead the nation's fusion commercialization and tritium supply chain, PNNL is excited to participate in this year’s Washington Fusion Week.

The week’s events are:

⚡ Aug. 31 at Washington State University-Everett

⚡ Sept. 1 in Seattle for Zap Energy and Avalanche Energy tours

⚡ Sept. 2 at PNNL’s Discovery Hall.

Washington Fusion Week showcases how PNNL and regional partners are connecting scientific expertise, research capabilities, technologies, partnerships, workforce, and infrastructure needed to enable a future fusion industry.

Our staff scientists and industry partners will present on a variety of fusion-related topics including fusion fuels, tritium supply, breeding, and blanket design, and high-performance computing.

PNNL is helping solve the critical tritium, fuel-cycle, and materials challenges that will determine the pace and success of fusion commercialization.

Congratulations to chief electrical engineer Jeff Dagle on being reappointed as co-director of the Advanced Grid Institute, a partnership between PNNL and Washington State University.

The joint institute brings together scientists, faculty, and students to develop innovative technologies that modernize, secure, and strengthen the nation’s electric grid through advanced controls and operations for future power systems.
