The City of Richland and the Richland Police Department are proud to announce that Richland has been awarded the Missouri Blue Shield Designation for 2026, a statewide recognition honoring communities that demonstrate a strong commitment to public safety, support for law enforcement, and meaningful partnerships between officers and the people they serve.
The designation, awarded by the Missouri Department of Public Safety, recognizes communities that are actively investing in safer neighborhoods, stronger community relationships, and collaborative approaches to addressing local challenges.
"This recognition belongs to our entire community," said city leadership. "The City of Richland and the Richland Police Department are honored to officially earn the Missouri Blue Shield designation. This achievement is a reflection of the strong partnership between our citizens, business owners, city leadership, and law enforcement officers who work tirelessly to keep our community safe."
Richland's selection reflects the daily efforts of officers, first responders, city staff, local organizations, businesses, and residents who work together to make the community a better place to live, work, and raise a family.
Police Chief N. Looper said the designation is not just about law enforcement, it is about relationships.
"This designation reflects the dedication of all our first responders and community partners," Looper said. "We recognize our responsibility to improve the lives of those in our community by providing quality support and resources to all persons in need. Through collaboration with citizens and community partners, we build meaningful relationships that foster trust, strengthen public safety, and help sustain a safe environment for all."
The Missouri Blue Shield Program was established by Governor Mike Kehoe to recognize communities that prioritize public safety and foster strong partnerships between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
"The Blue Shield program has shown what's possible when communities commit to prioritizing law enforcement and public safety," Governor Kehoe said. "After awarding $50,000 grants to more than 200 communities last year, we're continuing that work by welcoming new communities and renewing Blue Shield designations for counties, towns, and cities that remain committed to the program."
Richland officials view the designation as both an honor and a responsibility.
While the recognition highlights the work already being done throughout the community, city leaders and the Richland Police Department remain committed to strengthening partnerships, supporting public safety initiatives, and continuing to serve the citizens of Richland with professionalism, integrity, and compassion.
