We earned another huge labor endorsement today--Service Employees International Union!

I’m proud to announce that our campaign has been endorsed by the SEIU, representing nearly 66,000 workers across Michigan.

This is another major labor union standing with our campaign, and I’m proud of what that says about the coalition we are building. Working people deserve higher wages, better benefits, safe workplaces, and a real voice on the job. Strong unions help make that possible.

SEIU members do the work that keeps our communities healthy, safe, and moving forward. They care for our families, support our public services, and show up every day for the people around them.

I’m honored to have SEIU Michigan standing with us as we fight for working families, affordable health care, stronger communities, and an economy where hard work is actually rewarded.

Education is foundational. It prepares our children for the future, strengthens our communities, and builds an economy that works for everyone.

For me, this is deeply personal. I am a professor, a father of four children in our local public schools, and the parent of a child with significant disabilities. I have seen firsthand what great teachers and support professionals can do for a student, and I have also seen what happens when schools and educators are asked to do more without the resources they need.

Michigan must make education a real budget priority. That means protecting classroom funding, fully supporting special education, making sure rural schools are not left behind simply because of their ZIP code, and investing in the teachers, aides, counselors, bus drivers, and support professionals who keep our schools running every day.

We also need to make education a career people can build a life around. That means competitive pay, strong benefits, and a retirement system that allows educators and school employees to finish a lifetime of service with security and dignity. If we want great people in our classrooms, we have to show them that Michigan values their work not just today, but throughout their entire career.

That is why I am incredibly proud to have earned the endorsement of the Michigan Education Association. Their members are doing the work every day, educating our children, supporting families, and holding our communities together.

Fight with me to make sure Michigan's budget reflects a simple truth: investing in our kids is the most important investment we can make.

I’m proud to have earned the endorsement of the Committee to Protect Health Care.

My approach to health care comes back to a simple leadership principle I learned as a military commander: take care of your people. When people know their leaders have their backs, they can focus on the mission, support one another, and build a stronger team.

That same principle should guide how we govern. Putting people first means protecting access to quality, affordable health care and supporting the doctors, nurses, caregivers, and health professionals who keep our communities running. A healthy community depends on a strong health care workforce—and a strong economy depends on people being healthy enough to work, raise their families, and contribute to their communities.

I’m grateful for the Committee to Protect Health Care’s support, and I’ll continue fighting for a health care system that puts people before politics and patients before profits.

Let’s talk about solar farms and MI Public Act 233.

As a father raising a family, I believe we have a responsibility to protect the communities we will pass on to our children. Families deserve a meaningful voice in decisions that could permanently change the farmland, roads, views, and character of the places they call home. That is why it is important to repeal Public Act 233 and restore local authority over large-scale energy projects to our townships and villages.

I support renewable energy, and I believe solar can be part of Michigan’s energy future. But the proposed Richland solar farm would have lasting consequences for our community. I am the only candidate in this race who clearly opposes this project and stands with local families asking for a greater voice in the process.

Matt Hall opposed Public Act 233 and later supported legislation to repeal it, but the law remains in effect, and the Richland project continues to move forward. At the same time, utility-company PACs have contributed thousands of dollars to his campaign committee and political funds connected to him. Those contributions do not prove that any individual decision was bought, but families deserve to know who is funding their elected officials—especially when those same corporations benefit from decisions made in Lansing.

This is not about opposing clean energy. It is about protecting local democracy, respecting property owners, preserving productive farmland, and making sure families have a seat at the table. My values are rooted in service, accountability, and leaving our communities stronger for the next generation. We can build a cleaner energy future without allowing corporate interests or state government to silence local voices. I will work to repeal Public Act 233, return authority to our townships and villages, and make sure the needs of families come before the influence of powerful utility companies.

It was a busy and exciting week for our campaign!

We were out across the district at the Richland Independence Parade, Cruisin’ in Galesburg, Vicksburg’s ‘Burg Days of Summer, the Plainwell Farmers Market, Richland’s Music in the Park, and Parchment’s Kindleberger Parade and Festival.

Along the way, we had a ton of great conversations with individuals and families and met some truly inspiring people. I value these meaningful connections with my neighbors and want to continue showing up at the hometown events that bring our communities together.

I believe servant leaders should earn your trust by coming to you, listening to your concerns, and building relationships face-to-face—not by filling up your phone with annoying text messages.

If there is a public event coming up in your community, please let me know. I would love to work it into our campaign schedule, hear your ideas, and meet more of the people who make this district such a special place to raise a family and call home.

Receiving the Pro-Voter designation from Voters Not Politicians reflects my commitment to putting people ahead of politics.

As a retired Air Force officer, I spent my career serving under the principle that leaders are accountable to the people they serve. That same principle should guide our government.

I support fair elections, transparent government, and strong disclosure requirements so voters know who is funding political campaigns. I believe we must reduce the influence of corporate special interests and dark money so elected officials are accountable to constituents—not donors.

Every Michigander deserves an equal voice and confidence that their vote matters. That means protecting voting rights, expanding access to the ballot box, defending nonpartisan election administration, and ensuring that election outcomes reflect the will of the people.

The Voters Not Politicians designation recognizes my commitment to bringing integrity and honor back to government by building a democracy that works for everyone.

Service has been the foundation of my life—from military service, to education, to my commitment to this community. Supporting families in difficult moments is deeply personal to me. As the father of a child with severe disabilities, I understand the emotional weight that comes with caring for a loved one facing significant challenges.

This week, I had the honor of helping support a family through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Meeting Vale and sharing in this special experience was truly unforgettable.

Thank you, Vale, for inspiring all of us at the college and reminding us why compassion and service matter so much.
