A big milestone at the Horn Rapids Landfill!

Today, the newly constructed landfill cell received its first load of residential waste, marking an important step in the Phase 2 Landfill Expansion Project.

While a landfill expansion may not be the most visible City project, it is an important investment in the essential services our community relies on every day. The new cell provides additional disposal capacity and helps ensure the Horn Rapids Landfill can continue serving Richland residents well into the future.

There’s a lot more engineering beneath the surface than you might expect! The expansion was carefully designed and constructed to meet environmental and operational requirements while preparing the landfill for our community’s long-term needs.

Today’s first load means the new cell is officially being put to work!
