Senator Larcenia Bullard

Senator Larcenia Bullard "I am humbled to have served on behalf of the people of South Florida. Thank you all for givingme the opportunity." -Sen. Larcenia Bullard (2012)

Senator Larcenia Bullard and Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr. had a close relationship both being from South Carolina. He gave her the nickname "Pockets" and would greet her that way whenever they'd see each other. Now that both are ancestors it is my hope that they are embracing in Heaven and help guide our direction here on Earth. Rest in Peace Rev. Jackson 🦋

Today we honor Senator Larcenia Bullard, a trailblazing public servant whose legacy is rooted in advocacy, equity, and unwavering commitment to community.

As a respected leader and former Florida State Senator, Larcenia Bullard championed the belief that “everyone counts.” Her work focused on amplifying voices that too often went unheard and advancing policies that strengthened families, improved access, and upheld dignity for all.

Her leadership reminds us that public service is most powerful when it is driven by compassion, courage, and accountability.

We celebrate a legacy that continues to inspire service, representation, and progress.

Today we celebrate Mrs. Thelma Vernell Anderson Gibson on her 99th birthday.

She is the oldest living graduate of George Washington Carver Senior High School and a true trailblazer in Miami Dade County. Mrs. Gibson was the first colored Assistant Supervisor of the Miami Dade County Department of Health and a lifelong advocate for public health and underserved communities.

She helped found the Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Miami Dade County, played a key role in forming the Miami Chapter of the National Black Nurses Association, and later founded The Thelma Gibson Health Initiative.

At 99, she is living history. Miami is better because of her.

Women's History Month Sheroes

- Needless to say this one's special. We lost our mother 8 years ago today. Although we miss her dearly, the impression she left on us and this community transcends her wildest dreams.

We can only imagine that she smiles mightily at the legacy she left.
