Today, the Coastal Soil and Water Conservation District held its Local Workgroup Meeting and regular District Meeting at the beautiful Bryan County Development Authority Building.

Following the meetings, district supervisors, staff, and partners had the opportunity to tour the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America and learn more about this incredible facility and its operations.

A special thank you to the Bryan County Development Authority and Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America for welcoming us and providing such wonderful opportunities to connect, learn, and grow.

The Coastal Soil and Water Conservation District serve five counties - Bryan, Chatham, Liberty, Long, and McIntosh. Established in response to the devastating impacts of the Dust Bowl era, the district is committed to promoting responsible stewardship of our natural resources. Through leadership, education, technical assistance, and economic incentives, the district works to advance soil and water conservation across Coastal Georgia. By partnering with local communities, businesses, schools, organizations, and government agencies, the district continues to support and educate the public on the importance of environmental sustainability. The Coastal Georgia Conservation District actively engages the community by hosting field days, workshops, and outreach events that highlight conservation practices. The district is also deeply involved in local schools, participating in Ag Days, organizing tree plantings, and providing hands-on conservation lessons to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards.

Georgia has 40 Soil and Water Conservation Districts that represent every county in the state. Conservation Districts are units of state government that direct natural resource management programs. They work with local farmers, landowners, other units of government, and students to educate and actively promote programs and practices that support the conservation, and use and development of soil, water, and related resources.

GACD Group 4 Elects Vice Presidents

At their Group Meeting on April 30th, 2026, members of the Georgia Association of Conservation Districts (GACD) elected Michael Raulerson of Pierce County as GACD Group 4 Vice-President, and Eddy Turner of Washington County as GACD Group 4 Alternate Vice-President. They will each serve two year terms and represent the Southeast area of the state on the GACD Board.

Michael Raulerson was appointed to the Satilla River Soil and Water Conservation District in 2022. Michael was born and raised in Bacon County on a cattle and row crop farm where he showed registered Polled Herefords at the local, state, and national level. He received an AS from Valdosta State College and was hired in 1991 as an Air Traffic Controller with the FAA. Michael retired in 2015 from the FAA and returned to Blackshear and purchased his grandfather’s farm. His family currently raises boar goats, commercial cattle, and farms 180 acres of hay. Conservation practices are currently being utilized on his farm and he also assists others in the community with their projects.

Eddy Turner was appointed to the Central Georgia Soil and Water Conservation District board in 2023. Eddy is a lifelong resident of Washington county. Married to Ruthi Turner with grown children Trey, Mac and Shelley and four grandchildren. He is a member of First Baptist Church of Sandersville serving as Deacon and adult Sunday School teacher. He currently owns and operates a commercial hay business on a family farm supplying premium quality hay for horse and grass fed beef markets. Eddy was nominated as GACD’s Conservationist of the Year in 2025.

Today was a great day for conservation and community! 🌱🌳

Liberty County Soil and Water Conservation District supervisors Andrew Standard and Jeff Mobley planted an oak tree at Bradwell Institute, generously donated by the Coastal Soil and Water Conservation District.

With the help of FFA students Kamdon M., William M., and Emma A., this project not only added beauty to the campus but also invested in a greener future.

We love seeing students get hands-on and involved in conservation efforts—way to go! 👏
