The Squad sadly announces that one of our Charter Members ( Est. 1998), Celia Thompson, passed away in Florida in mid January. Her memorial service was this past Sunday in Royal Palm Beach, Florida.
Celia was a member of Engine 270 before it became a Squad Company and she was the first woman to ever be in a SOC Company.
She had moved to Florida after retiring and was enjoying her retirement in the sunshine state.
In the picture with Celia , is her Brother in Law, Dave Dangerfield, who also worked in 270 with Celia. Sadly, Dave had passed away after retiring to Florida in 2009.
Rest In Peace Celia, the pleasure was all ours to work with you.
May God Bless your family.

In a statement, Kristina Moon, wife of FDNY Firefighter William Moon said the following about his life and love of the Department. “Loving Billy was not only a marriage of families but a marriage to the Fire Department. His love and passion for the job extended far from the firehouse walls. He instilled that same passion in our children and always talked about how important it was to help others. We are eternally grateful for the Christmas miracles that Billy will now be able to give to others."

Moon’s organs will be donated to save others. It’s estimated that every donor can save up to eight lives. If you would like to learn more about how to register as a donor, go to www.liveonny.org.

We got together last night at The Squad to celebrate our Chief of Department, on his retirement from the greatest job in the world .
Our Chief, Thomas Richardson, was the Charter Captain of Squad 270 back in 1998 when the FDNY created 5 more Squads. He’s hanging up his helmet after 41 great years on the Job.
Chief was always a true professional and gentleman in every sense. To us, the men and woman he brought over to the Squad during his time as Captain, he’s our leader, brother and friend.
To the countless others he led during his tenure as Lt., Captain, Battalion Chief, Deputy Chief, Staff Chief, Chief of Operations and finally Chief of Department, as he explained to us last night, they were his troops, always making sure they were taken care of in every aspect of what this job is all about.
We all agree, he’s the best leader and FF any of us have ever encountered. The job will miss his leadership, but again he said, this job will always be fine, no matter who’s leading them. Typical Tom Richardson, as humble as anyone you ever met.
Thanks Chief, thank you for all you’ve done for this job and our careers.
We wish you a very long and healthy retirement, enjoy your beautiful family!!

Last Friday, we were finally able to have FF Paul Greco’s Plaque Dedication at The Squad. Paul passed away on 5/6/2020 from 9/11 related illnesses. He was a great firefighter and Sr.Man while with us from late 2002 until his retirement in August 2013.
Paul’s family was in attendance along with present and past Officers and members of the Squad, numerous Staff Chiefs( including Chief of Department Thomas Richardson, Squad 270’s Charter Captain), members from other SOC units and surrounding companies in Queens, along with guys he worked with in E47, E275, Sq18, before coming over to us.
Paul’s plaque will hang in the firehouse forever, reminding all who pass through about him and what he meant to our Company and to NEVER FORGET that horrible day and what it did to thousands of lives.
The members dedicated many long hours getting the firehouse and especially the Plague Area ready for this day, such an outstanding job by all.
Thank you to the Ceremonial Unit of the FDNY for all their help with making this day special for all, especially Paul’s Family.

Our Charter Captain back in 1998. He molded this new company into what it is today with his leadership and personality. All of us who have been able to be a part of this great company, especially the Charter Members and members you brought over afterwards, are honored to have worked along side of you and call you our Captain and friend.
Congratulations Chief Tom on an unbelievable Honor!!! The best of the best gets what he so well deserves!!
