🌊Use Caution After Storms⚠️

Hazards remain even after the hurricane passes.

Wait for the all‑clear: Don’t return home until officials say it’s safe.
Be alert: Watch for downed power lines, damaged buildings, gas leaks and hidden debris.

Avoid floodwaters: Standing water may hide sharp objects or be electrically charged.

Operate generators safely: Keep them outside, away from windows, to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

Document damage: Take photos for insurance claims before you begin cleanup.
Patience and caution will keep you and your community safe during recovery.

Stay Protected During Storms

Once a storm is underway, safety means staying put and staying alert.

Stay inside: Keep away from windows and glass doors. Use an interior room or hallway on the lowest level.

Avoid floodwaters: Never walk, swim or drive through floodwater. Just 6 inches can knock you down, and 12 inches can sweep away a car.

Keep informed: Listen to your battery‑powered radio or the Smart911 app for official updates and warnings.

Prepare for power outages: Have flashlights, spare batteries and keep phones charged.

Riding out the storm safely is as important as preparing for it.

National Hurricane Preparedness Week continues! Today’s focus is getting ahead of the storm;making sure your family, home and pets are ready before hurricane season starts.

Build a disaster kit: Stock at least three days of water, non‑perishable food, flashlights, batteries, first‑aid supplies and pet essentials.

Review your insurance: Check that your homeowner or renter coverage includes wind and flood damage.

Stay informed: Sign up for BEMA Alerts (powered by Smart911) and download the Smart911 app to receive real‑time local emergency notifications.

Bryan County Emergency Management Agency is proud to support our partners in Brantley County during the ongoing HWY 82 fires.

Our Blackhawk Mobile Command Post is deployed on scene, currently serving as the base of operations for the Georgia Type III All-Hazard Incident Management Team (IMT). This unit is critical in coordinating response efforts and ensuring seamless communication across agencies.

Director Alli Padgett and Emergency Management Specialist Dom Brathwaite are on the ground as part of the Incident Command Structure, working alongside fire and EMS personnel. Their efforts help manage resources, coordinate personnel, and organize operational assignments to support a safe and effective response.

We stand committed to supporting our neighboring communities in times of need. Please keep all responders and those impacted by the fires in your thoughts.

📢 Community Update

BEMA is in contact with Brantley County’s Emergency Management Agency and continues to monitor the situation closely.

At this time, Brantley County is not requesting donations. They have asked that the public hold off while they fully assess current needs.

While we appreciate the community’s willingness to help, unsolicited donations can add to the workload when resources and priorities are needed elsewhere.

If needs change, we will be sure to share those updates with the public.

We appreciate the continued support and patience as our neighboring county works through this situation.
