Drinking Water Professionals are Community Heroes!

Most of the work that keeps drinking water safe happens quietly in the background. Water is routinely treated, tested, and monitored to meet strict safety standards. Equipment is checked, systems are maintained, and data is scrutinized so any potential issues can be addressed early. The people who operate and maintain drinking water systems are trained & licensed professionals with a clear responsibility to protect public health.

It’s ! This week is a great time to learn about and reflect on how drinking water is treated, tested, and delivered, all while recognizing the dedicated water professionals who keep it running every day. Maine Rural Water Association is honored to be a key part of that process, from the source to your tap (and beyond!).

Most of the work that keeps drinking water safe happens quietly in the background.

Source water specialists help protect the water at the source.

Operators run the treatment process.

Lab staff collects and analyzes samples.

Field crews maintain pipes, pumps and equipment.

Engineers are planning upgrades and improvements.

MRWA supports every step of the process.

It’s steady, everyday work that keeps your water safe and reliable at the tap.

What a great showing at our Apprenticeship and Utility Appreciation Day this past week! Thank you to everyone for coming out, enjoying great food, valuable and informative trainings, and industry networking!

This was a great way to celebrate National Apprenticeship Appreciation Week, too. The water industry is the backbone of our way of life, and without a skilled workforce, public health would be at risk and economies would suffer. Through the NRWA registered apprenticeship program, we’re transforming water training. Reach out to Ken to find out more about how you can join the Maine RWA apprenticeship program, either as an apprentice or as a mentor Utility! Or apply online at https://apprenticeship.nrwa.org/

Thanks to everyone who came out to our three Asbestos Cement Pipes (ACP) training classes at Maine Water Company the past couple weeks! Chris went through everything you need to know about working with ACP, from identifying any potential hazards in working with the material, as well as techniques for cutting, removal, handling, and post work clean up. The training was supported by the MRWA training and response trailer with its associated tools, equipment, and training aids.

Be sure you're signed up to get Maine Rural Water Association's newsletter & emails to be in the know about many valuable upcoming training opportunities!
