🐾 Happy National Dog Day! 🐾

Today, the Fort Bend County Clerk’s Office is celebrating the wonderful dogs who bring so much love, joy and companionship into our lives—and shining a spotlight on the many shelter dogs still waiting for their forever homes. ❤️🐶

We’re proud to support the incredible work of Sugar Land Animal Services, whose dedicated team works every day to care for animals in need and help connect them with loving families. If you’ve been thinking about adding a four-legged friend to your family, consider visiting the shelter and meeting some of the amazing dogs who are looking for homes. You just might meet your new best friend! 🏡🐾

And there’s more to come! This October, County Clerk Laura Richard will host her annual Buddy’s Buddies Donation Drive, co-hosted with County Treasurer Bill Rickert. The drive will help provide much-needed support and supplies for Sugar Paws Pet Pantry, keeping local pets and families together.

Stay tuned for more details on how you can donate and make a difference!

On National Dog Day, let’s celebrate not only the dogs who already have loving homes, but also the ones still waiting for theirs. Adopt. Donate. Volunteer. Advocate. Every little bit helps. 🐕❤️ Check our Sugar Land Animal Services shelter dog spotlight and meet your new buddy today!

We’re closing out August with plenty of heat, but there may be a few opportunities for some much-needed rain.

Temperatures will remain in the mid to upper 90s, with today reaching around 99°F. Even as temperatures dip slightly later in the week, the humidity will keep “feels like” temperatures between 105–109°F.

⛈️ Rain chances increase Thursday and Friday, with scattered thunderstorms possible. As always with summer storms, rainfall can vary significantly from one neighborhood to another.

Continue to make heat safety part of your daily routine—stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat, and take frequent breaks in air conditioning or shade.

We’re starting the week with another day of dangerous summer heat. The latest outlook shows a significant chance of temperatures reaching 100°F or higher across portions of Southeast Texas, including our area.

With several days of persistent heat behind us, don’t let heat safety become an afterthought.

💧 Stay hydrated throughout the day
⏰ Reduce outdoor activity between 10 AM and 6 PM when possible
👕 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
❄️ Take frequent breaks in air conditioning or shade
👥 Check on older adults, children, neighbors and anyone without reliable A/C
🐾 Keep pets cool with plenty of fresh water and shade

If you need a break from the heat, consider spending time in an air-conditioned public space such as a library, mall, community center, grocery store or other indoor location.

Heat illness is preventable. Know your limits and take the heat seriously.
