We love this for National Poem in Your Pocket Day by Matthew Olzmann, the 2024 Akron Poetry Prize final judge, up at Tin House.

PSA…there is a spot at Pt Molate where there are a couple of dozen cala lilies that pop up every year. They are in some dense brush, not easy to get to. Not a lot of light gets through, but when it does it can produce some great affects. I noticed one starting to bloom the other week and over the course of a few days tracked its progress. Unfortunately just as it was about to fully bloom, it looks like someone cut it down. Remember, this is all out there for everyone to enjoy. Please leave it the way you found it. Unless of course you’d like to take any trash out that you might happen to find.

The last pic is from the same area, taken yesterday.

There was celebration at a press conference in Berkeley a day after Berkeley’s City Council voted unanimously to adopt an ordinance giving the title of the land to the Sogorea Te’ Land Trust.

These photos were taken from the path out to the bridge. I heard a very loud racket and turned just in time to capture these. Then I noticed a car parked alongside Stenmark, directly across the street from the nest, with a couple standing next to it taking photos. Im pretty sure this is what agitated the birds.

I’m not a great judge of distance, but I’m pretty sure the beginning of the path and the south end of the parking lot are within 100 yards of the nest. There’s no real way to adhere to the protocol all of the time. But while you’re visiting, please try not to disturb them as much as possible.
