Here is a link from the ACLU that you can use to tell your Virginia Legislators to ! We have one more chance to get an amendment on the ballot in next year's election to automatically restore the voting rights of Virginians who complete a term of incarceration. If the House of Delegates passes SJ1/SB1 then the voters of Virginia will get a chance to decide this important issue.

Voting is the key to democracy. We won't go back!

Voters who are voting by mail in this election are required once again to have a witness signature. Vote by mail ballots have arrived at Virginia registrars without the required witness signatures. Registrars have begun contacting voters who sent in ballots without witness signatures to "cure" the ballot so that it can be tallied. If you are voting by mail or know someone who will vote by mail, please keep in mind that witnesses are once again required. Voters who did not provide witness signatures can contact their registrars or visit an early voting location in their locality to start the cure process.

For those voting absentee by mail in the current election, please be aware that a witness is required when filling out your ballot. This requirement was suspended last year but witnesses are once again required.

The General Assembly passed a law that a witness is not required to vote absentee by mail *if Virginia is in a state of emergency* . Virginia is no longer in a state of emergency so we need to follow the instructions included with our absentee ballots regarding the presence of a witness.

Republican lieutenant governor candidate Winsome Sears gave her full support for the new heartbeat abortion restriction in Texas and said she would support the same restriction here in Virginia. The comments came while Sears was being interviewed on a Newsmax talk show.

The Virginia Senate will be voting on SJ272, introduced by Senator Mamie E. Locke, very soon. SJ272 is a Virginia Constitutional amendment that guarantees the right to vote of all Virginians who satisfy US citizenship, age, and residency requirements. It disregards all other factors including felony convictions and will therefore end the concept of felony disenfranchisement. The Virginia State Conference NAACP has described SJ272 as their highest legislative priority for this year. The Virginia ACLU also supports passage of this amendment. Felony disenfranchisement was designed from the start in the era of Jim Crow to interfere with the right to vote of Black people in Virginia.

If you want to call your Senator to tell them that you support the right to vote all Virginia residents over the age of 18, you can find their phone number here:

Thursday is a day of action for supporting the Virginia effort to create a US Constitutional Amendment that sets reasonable spending limits in our elections. If you think that money is not speech and that we should protect our electoral process from the distorting effects of big money you can contact your Delegate or Senator and ask them to support HJ 599 / SJ 314. Here is a link from Public Citizen that will help you send an email to both your Delegate and Senator: https://publiccitizen.salsalabs.org/vaamendcoalition/index.html
