Tired of sitting in traffic on I-80? WCCTAC released the Draft West Contra Costa County Express Bus Implementation Plan to outline a strategy for expanded express bus service from West Contra Costa County to Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland and San Francisco. The expanded express bus service could provide West Contra Costa County residents an alternative commute option along Interstate 80 between Hercules and the Bay Bridge, one of the most congested freeway segments in the Bay Area. The WCCTAC Board will review the Draft Plan on Friday, January 24, 2020. Once the Plan is approved, implementation of the expanded express bus system will be dependent upon whether Regional Measure 3 is upheld in ongoing legal challenges and if Contra Costa County voters pass a transportation sales tax measure on the March 2020 ballot. Richmond CERT

Home Disaster Preparedness Class, Wed., Feb. 6th

Learn what you can do before, during, and after a disaster to protect your household and home. First responders will be overwhelmed in a disaster. Civilians should begin to consider themselves disaster volunteers. Since they will want to help their family members and neighbors, this training can help them operate in a safe and appropriate manner. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) concept and organization are discussed. The focus of this class is on household preparedness. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/household-disaster-preparedness-feb-6-tickets-53558459795

Neighborhood Emergency Radio Communications, Mon. March 18th

After a disaster, cell phones may not be working. Learn about neighborhood emergency radio communications so you can get the help you need and support others. You will learn:
- types of radios (FRS, GMRS, & Ham)
- basic radio communication skills
- what might be the best type of radio to have for your situation
- how to connect with others in a disaster
- how you can practice now so when a disaster strikes, you'll have the skills you need

During a major earthquake, phones are not going to work or lines will be overwhelmed. 911 will be unable to handle the volume of calls. Firefighters and first responders are required to do a windshield assessment of the damage before starting to respond. We as a community can help our first responders and ourselves by working together as a neighborhood team to report the location of victims and hazards. This will allow them to start responding faster, which can save lives and property. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/neighborhood-emergency-radio-communications-tickets-55062254686
