Let’s talk about a statistic that genuinely threw us for a loop. According to data from 1 in 5 Virginians admit to not wearing their seatbelts in surveys.

Here is the harsh reality of skipping that simple click:

- THE RISK: If you’re thrown from your vehicle during a crash, experts say you have a 75% chance of being killed.
- THE LAW: Buckling up every single time isn’t just a suggestion—it’s the law in Virginia for a life-saving reason.

It only takes two seconds to protect yourself, your passengers, and your future. Every trip. Every time.

Great work by our Safety Ambassador Madison! 👏

She tells us this is her second bird rescue recently. 🐦 You might also remember her from her winter hit: “Saving a Cat from a Car Radiator.” 🐱

VCU Safety Ambassadors are unarmed, non-sworn members of our department who handle community calls that don’t require a police officer. They are highly trained in mental health crisis response and always ready to step in.

Whether your car needs a jump-start or you’re a young bluejay stuck in a fountain, this team is here to help! 🚙✨

REMINDER! High school graduation ceremonies continue this week. ✨

The largest ceremonies will take place at VCU's Siegel Center. Please expect heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic throughout the day along the W. Broad Street corridor, particularly from Belvidere St. to Lombardy St. (occurring twice daily over the next three days).

VCUPD officers will direct traffic at N. Harrison St. and at the entrances/exits of the W. Broad Street parking deck before and after each ceremony.

Drivers: Please plan ahead, drive slowly, and eliminate all distractions behind the wheel.

Pedestrians: Please wait to cross until you have the right of way or are directed by officers, remaining on the sidewalk until it is safe.
