We commemorate Juneteenth as a ministry committed to human dignity and equality and reflect on this day with this prayer.

God of liberation,
Today we celebrate Juneteenth, commemorating the end of slavery in America. Open our eyes that we might recognize in each other sisters and brothers with a common origin and a shared destiny. May this great celebration of liberty and life inspire us to continue the work of justice and freedom, pursuing and promoting the dignity of all. We pray in the name of God who strengthens us in our quest for love and light. Amen.

Uterine fibroids are a very common condition affecting up to 80% of women who have a uterus. Half of the women who have fibroids will have symptoms from the fibroids. Fibroids are the most common reason a woman has a hysterectomy.

Transcervical fibroid ablation procedures with the Sonata device are another option to treat abnormal bleeding caused by uterine fibroids. "The addition of this treatment modality gives women the option to preserve their uterus and can be considered in those desiring future fertility," shares Dr. Abigael Dishler. "Unlike other treatment options such as hysterectomy or surgical removal of the fibroid (myomectomy), this procedure is incisionless and requires very little downtime. Most women can return to normal activity the next day."

Making breast health a priority is easier when care is close to home. Thanks to generous Bon Secours Foundation donors, Carolyn and many others can access life-saving screenings right in their neighborhood. Early detection matters — let’s make it convenient for everyone!

Carolyn Davis takes breast cancer seriously. She has lost an aunt and a sister to the disease and has a sister and niece who are survivors. She never misses getting her mammogram. And now, because of the generosity of donors, staying on top of her health is easier than ever.

“It’s very important to me because of the history of my family,” Carolyn says. “I receive a letter reminding me that it’s about time for my mammogram. I make an appointment as soon as I receive the letter.”

Fortunately for Carolyn, Bon Secours takes breast cancer seriously as well. Donations from the Bon Secours Hampton Roads Foundation have helped to expand access to care. Screenings are now available in satellite offices throughout the region. Carolyn received her most recent mammogram at a new office in Portsmouth, only five minutes away from her home. It means she no longer has to navigate the congested Suffolk area.

“I’m at the age now where I don’t really like driving in heavy traffic,” she says. “Now it’s very convenient for me.”

Exciting progress in Powdersville, SC! Teams recently gathered for a topping-out ceremony, marking the placement of the final beam for the new medical campus, located at 104 Roe Road.

The project includes a 40,000-square-foot medical office building — home to a wide range of primary and specialty care services — and a 12,500-square-foot freestanding emergency department. Employees had the opportunity to sign the beam, leaving their mark on a facility that will serve the growing Powdersville community for years to come. Construction is progressing well and is expected to be complete next spring, bringing expanded, convenient and compassionate care closer to home for residents across the region.
