A VCU Engineering cybersecurity team has earned the U.S. Cyber Command Hunter Award for research exploring vulnerabilities inside the industrial computers that keep critical infrastructure running.

Developed in VCU’s Security and Forensics Engineering Lab, the award-winning project gives students hands-on experience tackling real-world cybersecurity challenges alongside faculty and federal partners.

It’s the first Hunter Award for VCU!

What if light could help make manufacturing more sustainable?

Leah Spangler, Ph.D., assistant professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, has received a National Science Foundation CAREER Award providing more than $550,000 to advance new biomanufacturing techniques at VCU Engineering.

Her research will explore using light-controlled proteins to create nanomaterials through more sustainable processes, with potential applications ranging from electronics to pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Big recognition for research making an impact.

Ravi Hadimani, Ph.D., professor of mechanical and nuclear engineering and director of VCU’s Biomagnetics Laboratory, has received the 2026 Young Investigator Award at the International Symposium on Integrated Magnetics.

The award recognizes his innovative biomagnetics research aimed at advancing brain stimulation and imaging technologies.
