Richmond Free Library

Richmond Free Library We provide resources and experiences that inspire, inform, entertain, and connect our community. The library maintains priority access to this space.

The Richmond Free Library was established in 1888 and is currently housed in the renovated Universalist Church, now owned by the Town. The staff includes one full-time librarian with a master’s degree in Library Science, one Assistant Director/Youth librarian and four part-time library staff members, who are paid by the town, and several volunteers. Since 1979, the library has met Vermont Public L

ibrary standards. In 2011, the Library joined VOKAL (Vermont Organization of Koha Automated Libraries) and was able to make its catalog available via the Internet. Major renovations designed to make use of the entire three story building were completed in 2003. Rooms on the third floor can now be used for music lessons, tutoring, and small group meetings, while the community room on the second floor is available for larger meetings and assemblies and houses a high-quality grand piano. The expansion created greatly needed assembly space in the heart of the village. This space is in regular demand by dance and yoga teachers, group meetings, private parties, and local committees and organizations. The library provides programs for all ages and often coordinates with other organizations to make use of the community room for musical and other presentations. Every summer, children of the community enjoy special programming and art sessions.
