Volunteers needed! Please join us for a work day at Barker Field this Friday. Duties include:

painting/staining the tables
-litter pick up
-hole filling with dirt
-limbing up trees (with a certified steward)
-cleaning water bowls
-general cleanup, other?

Friends of Barker Field (the dog park in Byrd Park) will be hosting a cleanup on Friday, July 5 from 8am-11am. The park is closed Wednesday, July 3 through Friday, July 5 f

We were just notified by the Parks and Recreation department that Barker Field will be closed this Saturday from 9am to 1pm because of a special event in the area. Please plan your day accordingly!

We received a message from a park goer alerting us that their wallet was stolen from their car yesterday around 5:30pm while they were at the dog park. They believe that their car was locked at the time but saw no evidence of forced entry. The thief did attempt to use their credit cards, but thankfully their bank stopped the transaction and they were able to lock all of their cards before more money was stolen. We just wanted to make others aware that this happened, and remind everyone to be vigilant when visiting Barker Field!

Please be mindful of the rules before entering the park. Unfixed dogs are not allowed in the park. This is for the safety of your dog and other dogs. Be responsible and respectful. We greatly appreciate it! -Andrew

After our meeting on August 5th, the Friends of Barker Field board decided to sign a fiscal sponsor agreement with Friends of Byrd Park. This agreement will allow us to start fundraising again, which will lead to making improvements in the park. We are also so thankful to our treasurer Nan who completed the application for the Richmond Outdoor & Prosperity Fund that is sponsored by the Community Foundation. We are hopeful this will provide us some funds to start the process of restoring and maintaining the park. We will post updates here once we have an update. Thanks everyone who helped with this process!
