Service Spotlight:
In early December 2025, Connie Longhany, Program Director for BHG Behavioral Health Group – Richmond, met with the Madison County Detention Center to discuss the provision of professional counseling services in support of individuals participating in the facility’s Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program.
Following this engagement, a formal partnership was established with BHG Behavioral Health Group – Richmond to enhance and expand substance use disorder treatment services within the facility.
As part of this initiative, MCDC has expanded its Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program to include structured counseling services, providing a more comprehensive approach to addressing both the physical and behavioral aspects of addiction.
Counseling services are provided at no cost to participants and are delivered by certified and licensed professionals, including Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselors (CADC) and Licensed Clinical Alcohol & Drug Counselors (LCADC). This ensures individuals in custody receive credible, evidence-based, and professionally guided care.
Participants in the program also receive ongoing clinical evaluations, including American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) assessments, as well as individualized treatment planning to ensure care is appropriate, safe, and tailored to each individual’s needs.
Substance use disorder impacts more than physical health—it affects emotional well-being, relationships, and decision-making. While medication plays a critical role in stabilizing individuals, counseling provides the tools necessary to support long-term recovery.
Through this partnership, individuals participating in treatment are offered weekly group counseling sessions focused on:
coping and decision-making skills
underlying behavioral and emotional challenges
positive lifestyle changes
for successful reentry into the community
We are excited to assist with providing structured, evidence-based treatment that supports recovery and reduces recidivism.
