If you’ve enjoyed the landscaping on the Mansion Lawn and along the pathways from the Mansion to the Italian Garden, then you’ve admired landscaping that was restored in the early 2000s by Peggy Singlemann. 🏡 Formerly serving as our Director of Horticulture for 38 years, Peggy has landscaped on all of Maymont's 100 acres and will be sharing her gardening expertise and stories on June 3 at our Maymont at 100 talk: Revitalizing a Historic Landscape (info and registration in comments). 🗣️
Via Florum is Latin for “flowering way”. 👣 🌸 The flourishing pathways from Maymont Mansion to the Italian Garden exemplify the influence of Italian landscape design, because in a classic, formal Italian garden, the house is incorporated or connected to the main garden. The inscription on the Italian Garden stone arch marks the transition. 🪨
