Today wraps up the first of our two annual firefighter turnout gear inspections, cleanings, and repairs required by the state.
A huge thank you to Redline Gear Cleaning for bringing their mobile operation to us and cleaning approximately 200 sets of turnout gear from head to toe. Having this done on-site keeps our firefighters in service while ensuring every set of gear receives the care it needs.
Many people don’t realize that one of the greatest dangers firefighters face isn’t always the fire itself—it’s the long-term exposure to cancer-causing contaminants left behind on our gear after emergency calls. Firefighters are at a significantly higher risk of developing occupational cancer because of the work we do.
Routine gear inspections and advanced cleaning are essential in removing those contaminants and are just one of the many proactive steps we take to protect the health and safety of our firefighters.
