Congratulations to Madison County Firefighters Austin Martin, Brayden Thacker, and Nathaniel Wells on their graduation from The Fire Academy of Kentucky.

Throughout the academy, recruits complete demanding physical training, emergency response drills, hazardous materials instruction, and hands-on firefighting techniques while meeting strict performance standards.

This accomplishment reflects discipline, dedication, and a strong commitment to serving others. We are proud to recognize Austin, Brayden, and Nate as they continue their service to Madison County.

Well done!

Madison County firefighters recently completed trench rescue training in Berea, Kentucky.

Trench rescue incidents can happen during underground utility work, construction projects, or other excavation emergencies where unstable soil creates dangerous conditions.

During the class, firefighters trained on stabilization techniques, rescue operations, and protective systems used to help prevent further collapse.

This type of specialized training helps ensure crews are prepared to respond safely and effectively when these emergencies occur.

Preparedness starts long before the call.

Expanding Fire Protection in Madison County πŸš’

We are excited to give our community a first look at our new fire station in Northern Madison County. A few of our firefighters had the opportunity to visit the site recently and it is great to see things starting to take shape!

This is a milestone for our department and for the community we are proud to serve.

All current fire service and coverage will remain in place. This is an expansion of services.

We look forward to continuing to share updates as this project progresses.

International Firefighters Day πŸš’

Today, we honor the men and women who run toward danger so others can reach safety. Our firefighters serve with courage, dedication, and selflessness every single day.

That commitment goes far beyond the call. It is built through countless hours of training and preparation, strengthened through the trust of teammates who rely on each other shift after shift, and felt throughout our neighborhoods, from installing smoke alarms in homes to engaging with children at Touch-a-Truck and connecting with the next generation at job fairs.

Madison County is grateful for the service of every firefighter in our community and around the world. Thank you for your commitment to keeping us safe.

Your lawn mower could start a fire, even after you turn it off.

Hot engines, dry grass, and improper storage are more dangerous than most people realize. Firefighter Thomas Pettit walks through what to watch for.

The kids had questions. We had answers. πŸš’

Our firefighters spent the last two days at St. Mark Catholic School and Madison Kindergarten Academy for Touch-a-Truck events.

Students had the opportunity to see fire apparatus up close, take part in hands-on learning, and talk with firefighters. These moments matter more than people might realize. When a child sees a firefighter during an emergency, we want them to feel safe, not scared.

We’re grateful to both schools for the invitation and to every student who took part.

The Madison County Fire Department was at EKU in the Lower Powell Plaza earlier today, with Firefighter Thomas Pettit, Battalion Chief Ben Hall, and Assistant Fire Chief Steve Asbury connecting with students and sharing free resources on staying safe both on and off campus.

We appreciated everyone who stopped by to talk with us and learn more about fire safety and prevention.

Thank you to EKU for the invitation. We always value the opportunity to be out in the community and have these conversations.

πŸš’ Fire Driver Training at Blue Grass Army Depot

Earlier this month, Madison County Fire Department personnel completed EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operator Course) driver training at the Blue Grass Army Depot.

The hands-on training focused on operating fire trucks in controlled scenarios and strengthened coordination between departments through mutual aid.

This is why we train.

In recent weeks, our firefighters conducted ice rescue training twice to stay prepared for challenging winter conditions. Yesterday, that training was put into action when crews responded to a call involving a calf that had fallen into the water on a local farm.

As of this morning, the calf is back on its feet, which is a promising update.

We are grateful for the dedication of our firefighters. They commit to training long before the emergency happens, so when the call comes, they are ready to act. That preparation protects lives, property, and our community.
