SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS FOR TOMORROW (TUESDAY, JULY 21)
The National Weather Service has placed Central Kentucky under an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 out of 5) for severe weather tomorrow, Tuesday, July 21.

A strong line of storms is expected to move through our region between midday and early Tuesday night. The primary threats include damaging straight-line winds (up to 70+ mph), isolated tornadoes, large hail, and flash flooding. The Richmond Fire Department urges all residents to prepare now. Take these actionable steps today to ensure your family's safety:
Stay Weather-Aware: Ensure your cell phone is fully charged and emergency alerts are enabled. Have multiple ways to receive warnings (Weather Radio, local news, apps).

Secure Outdoor Items: Bring loose patio furniture, trash cans, and outdoor decorations inside or secure them firmly. High winds can turn these into dangerous projectiles.

Plan Your Safe Space: Know exactly where you will go if a Tornado Warning is issued—ideally a basement, storm cellar, or an interior room on the lowest floor away from windows.

Turn Around, Don't Drown: If you encounter flooded roadways tomorrow, never attempt to drive through them.

After receiving new and updated rope rescue equipment last month, all RFD crews participated in hands on training the last three days!!

The training was conducted out of the heat and inside the new climate controlled Jason Campbell Training Facility. Keeping the crews cooler and able to perform more training evolutions.

A special thank you goes out to Alex Wilbur and his father, Nate Wilber, for coming and sharing their knowledge of the equipment and assisting in the training each day!

URGENT EMERGENCY UPDATE: FLOODING IN MADISON COUNTY

Richmond Fire Department and Madison County emergency crews are currently responding to numerous water rescues across the area due to severe ongoing flooding.

To ensure we can protect everyone, Richmond Fire has requested additional water rescue teams through our regional partnership with the BLUEGRASS Emergency Response Team. These specialized teams are arriving now and are actively deploying throughout Madison County to assist with life-saving rescue operations.

⚠️ CRITICAL SAFETY MESSAGE FOR ALL RESIDENTS ⚠️

LIMIT TRAVEL: Please stay off the roads unless it is an absolute emergency. Flooded roads are incredibly dangerous, and extra traffic hampers our rescue teams' ability to move quickly.

SEEK HIGHER GROUND: If you are in a low-lying or flood-prone area, do not wait for the water to reach your doorstep. Seek higher ground immediately.

TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN: Never attempt to drive or walk through flooded roadways. Moving water can easily sweep your vehicle away, and the road underneath may already be washed out.

Our crews and regional partners are working tirelessly to keep everyone safe. Please help us by staying home, staying safe, and keeping the roads clear.

We want to extend a thank you to Koorsen Fire & Security for hosting an outstanding fire safety and code compliance seminar at the KFC Yum Center in Louisville.

Representatives from the Richmond Fire Department had the privilege of attending this educational event alongside other AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction) and facility managers. The seminar provided a great opportunity to dive deep into the latest safety codes and compliance standards, ensuring we continue to bring the best knowledge and protection back to our community.

Ongoing training and collaboration with industry partners like Koorsen allow us to stay ahead of the curve in fire prevention and life safety.

Thanks again for the hospitality and the valuable learning experience!
