Assisting Families of Inmates Assisting Families of Inmates is one of only a handful of such programs to provide these services in Virginia and across the United States.

The mission of AFOI is to serve families of the incarcerated with evidence-based programs providing meaningful visitation, family support and children’s services. We strive to prevent the breakdown of relationships among inmates and their families by providing regular, meaningful visitation, support, referrals and education services. Our programs help families and loved ones throughout the period

of incarceration and also prepare families for a successful transition when the inmate is released from prison back into our community.

AFOI is excited to partner with VADOC to launch our MAC Program, and its technology, inside DOC facilities, beginning with the Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women!

Virginia Department of Corrections

Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women hosted the Milk and Cookies Program, which features a collaboration team between Assisting Families of Inmates, Reentry Services, Information Technologies, the Department of Education, and Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women.

The program supports children with incarcerated loved ones, offering a range of services to help children cope with the emotional impact and provide a safe space for children to express their feelings and teach them valuable life skills.

We greatly appreciate Fluvanna and the entire Milk and Cookies Program team for their work.
