At Chimborazo Elementary, we are incredibly grateful for the partnership and generosity of the Richmond Ed Fund, the CarMax Foundation, and KaBOOM!

Together, these organizations helped turn a shared vision into a reality, creating an incredible new playground for more than 500 Chimborazo students.
The Richmond Ed Fund believed in our vision from the very beginning, providing the support, credibility, and fundraising partnership that helped bring this project to life. Through the generosity of the CarMax Foundation and the leadership of KaBOOM!, our school community was able to transform that vision into a vibrant new playspace designed by Chimborazo students and families.

On June 25, volunteers from Chimborazo Elementary, our surrounding community, and CarMax came together to build the playground in less than six hours as part of KaBOOM!’s 30th birthday celebration. The day concluded with a joyful ribbon-cutting ceremony emceed by two of our own Chimborazo students and energized by music from our favorite DJ, Ricky Reese.

Today, our students have an inspiring new playground that reflects their ideas, creativity, and the power of community partnership. This is just the beginning. As we build on the momentum of Phase 1, we look forward to continuing the transformation of this area of our campus into a safe, welcoming space where children and families can play, connect, and thrive. We invite everyone to come by, enjoy the new playground, and stay tuned for the next phase of this exciting journey.

Join us - Thursday May 14 at 5:30! We will have dinner and childcare provided. We’ve got a great year-in-review wrap up and playground update.

We plan to meet outside in the outdoor garden / classroom so bring the kiddos to play on the lower grades playground!

Did we mention there will be CAKE? And a Chimbo Swag giveaway for one lucky child and adult who attend!
