We are excited to announce the launch of our Free Summer Meal Program for 2024. Starting June 10th, we’ll be offering nutritious meals sourced locally, fresh, seasonal, and organic to children and teens aged 18 and under while school is out for the summer. These meals will be conveniently available at various sites across West Contra Costa, including schools, parks, libraries, community centers, and more. Best of all, there’s no need to sign-ups for paperwork – all children and teen eats for FREE. Here is the official list of the Summer Feeding Program Sites.

Let's congratulate three members of our food services team, Jenne Marron, Juana Jaime, and Lilian Orellana, for graduating from the Fall 2023 California Healthy School Food Pathway Apprenticeship program by The Chef Ann Foundation Chef Ann Foundation 🎉👩‍🎓👩‍🎓👩‍🎓

Their journey began with the Healthy School Food Pathway Pre-Apprenticeship, and over the 2023-24 school year, this dynamic and inspiring cohort expanded their knowledge through courses offered by the Chef Ann Foundation’s School Food Institute and the Institute of Child Nutrition. 📚🍎

In addition to their coursework, they participated in virtual learning sessions and completed 24 hours of on-the-job training at their district each week. 🖥️👩‍🍳 We’re thrilled to see them apply their knowledge, passion, and skills to serve the best and healthiest meals to our students! 🥗👩‍🏫✨

On the second day of Chef Boot Camp, our FS employees learn how to make muffins from scratch, how to cook rice, and how to use different equipment that we have in our kitchen.
Chef Randal along with Kristen Gibson prepared different types of pizza for lunch, everything was so delicious 😋😋😋

A few months ago, our first hosted Chef Boot Camp by Randal Lane was a success. So we give opportunities to other food services staff that haven’t had the chance yet to get this experience and here we are.
Today Monday, November 20th (Thanksgiving Break) on this second chance of Chef Boot Camp, our staff will learn basic skills, for example: Menu reading, knife skills, Food Safety, and preparing ingredients to bake muffins for the next day!
This training will help our food services team to be prepared for future scratch cooking at school sites.
