A Message to the Richmond Community:

New Yearโ€™s Eve Reminder from Richmond PD ๐ŸŽ‡

As we celebrate the arrival of the New Year, many of us will enjoy festivities with family and friends. We want to take a moment to address a serious concern: the use of illegal fireworks in our city. The supply of illegal fireworks are a local and regional issue.

๐Ÿ’ฅ Fireworks are ILLEGAL in Richmond! ๐Ÿ’ฅ

These fireworks can cause significant damage to property, injury, trauma to people and pets, and distress to our veterans who have bravely served this country. Itโ€™s crucial to remind everyone to think twice before engaging in such dangerous activities.

๐Ÿ” Richmond PD Operations for NYE:
To ensure public safety on New Yearโ€™s Eve, the Richmond Police Department will be actively monitoring reported incidents and addressing illegal fireworks usage.

๐Ÿšจ Penalties for Illegal Fireworks in Richmond:
- Purchasing fireworks: $1,000 fine
- Displaying fireworks for sale: $1,000 fine
- Selling or distributing fireworks: $1,000 fine
- Setting off fireworks without a permit: $400 fine

What Should I Do?

CALL IT IN: If you see someone using illegal fireworks, please report it to the Richmond Police Department at (510) 233-1214. #0.
REPORT BEFORE POSTING: We understand how frustrating it can be to endure loud fireworks, especially those resembling heavy artillery or gunfire, and in some cases, actual gunfire. While it may be tempting to scroll to social media to share the concerns, it is important to report illegal fireworks in when you see them.

We understand that these displays are rightfully alarming and frustrating. They also impact public safety resources. Let's channel the frustration proactively. Help us keep our community safe by reporting illegal fireworks usage, not just on New Yearโ€™s Eve, but in the days to come. Please exercise patience with us as your officers, firefighters and dispatchers work to address this issue.

Thank you for your cooperation, and may you have a safe and joyful New Year! ๐ŸŽ‰

In service,

Michelle Milam
Crime Prevention Manager
Richmond Police Department

Remembering those lives we lost to transphobia. Transgender Day of Remembrance ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€โšง๏ธ

Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is an annual observance that honors the lives of the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence.

We will continue to come together this day, until there is no more violence against our trans community.
