Our Explorer Post assisted EMA during the eclipse and were very valuable assets!

Our dedicated team at the Emergency Operations Center ensured a smooth operation during yesterday's Total Solar Eclipse of 2024. They represent just a fraction of the hundreds of first responders who stood ready to address any concerns from our citizens and visitors passing through our area, many of whom volunteered their time for this effort. This collaborative planning and preparedness underscore our unwavering commitment to serving and protecting our community. "

***Community Service Announcement***

New Castle Police Department is sad to announce the unexpected passing of K9 Axe. On April 27, 2019 at approximately 7:00am Sgt Josh Hedges went to let K9 Axe out of his kennel and found that Axe had collapsed during the night. Sgt Hedges immediately rushed Axe to the veterinarian where they attempted to save Axe; however, the veterinarian was unsuccesful and Axe passed away.

Axe was transported to Purdue University for an autopsy to determine his cause of death. At this time it is believed that he suffered a medical emergency known as Gastric Tortion. Unfortunately this is common in large breed working dogs

Sgt Hedges and K9 Axe had worked the evening prior and K9 Axe appeared well. K9 Axe had been running around playing with his tennis ball as normal and assisted NCPD on a perimeter at a 911 call.

Sgt Hedges and Axe had been partnered for approximately 9 months.

Our office received a very thoughtful package. Students of Dennis Intermediate Middle School sent our officers hand made cards thanking us and other members of law enforcement for their actions taken on a tragic day in December.

We are very proud of our gift that has now been hung under our flag that hangs in our hallway. These cards will be seen by every member of our agency that proudly serve this community.

Our agency would like to commend these students for their bravery on that December day, and on through their school year. These students are remarkable! Thank you again!!
