🚨Scam alert

‼️ Public Service Announcement: Scam Alert ‼️

We've become aware of a scam that is going on in our community targeting families of individuals who are or were recently in our custody. Citizens reported receiving phone calls from someone falsely claiming to be an employee of the criminal justice system, to include members of the Sheriff’s Office, probation officers, county clerks, and the like, requesting electronic payment for bonds to be posted, or fees associated with ankle monitors and breath intoxilyzers.

The Sheriff’s Office does not and will never solicit money over the phone, electronically, or directly from citizens.

If anyone contacts you claiming to be a Sheriff’s Office employee and asks for personal information, financial details, or payment of any kind:

• Hang up immediately.
• Call the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office non‑emergency line at 979‑864‑2200 to verify the legitimacy of the call.

Your vigilance helps protect our community from fraud. Please share this information to help prevent others from becoming victims.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch through Wednesday evening as Tropical Storm Edouard moves inland.

Rain and storms will increase today and tonight across Brazoria County, including Richwood.

A swath of 3 to 6 inches of rain is possible, with isolated totals of 10 to 15+ inches where storms repeatedly train over the same areas. This raises the risk of flooding on streets, low lying areas, creeks, and roads.

Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Never drive through floodwaters.

Monitor weather updates closely at weather.gov/houston. Be prepared to move to higher ground if a Flash Flood Warning is issued.

Stay safe.

This week Chief Richards completed the New Chief Development Program (Class #81) at the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (LEMIT) in Huntsville.

The five day course is the only program approved by TCOLE to meet the statutory training requirements for first time Texas police chiefs.

It covers the practical side of running an agency: leadership, budgeting, policy development, liability reduction, employee relations, and more.

The program also brings together new police chiefs from all over the great state of Texas. Those conversations and shared experiences build a statewide network of peers who understand the unique demands of the job.

Congratulations to Chief Richards and to all the graduates of NCDP Class #81!
