Why a Ladder? Reason #2: Stairs may be the safer way to climb, but where is the fun in that? Why have we "criminalized" unstructured play in public schools and parks? "Stay on the path", "Watch your step", "Be careful", "Don't lean over the railing", and my favorite I recently heard from a parent "No running!" Argh...
Look at this picture and guess which scenario helps a child's coordination and imagination? Come on, didn't you climb trees as a child? Jacob's Ladder Nature Club leaders invite each child to explore thru "risky play". We don't command with words "Be Careful". Rather, we ask - "Do you think that will hold?" "How do you plan on getting down?"
