Update: Happy EMS Week! A small update: We are currently unsure of when the decision around the future of the Ambulance Corps will be voted on by our town’s Mayor and Council. We originally assumed there would be a reading at the next meeting (May 10th) after the bids for the RFP were due. No one in the town’s administration will respond to our requests for more information, so we are unsure of when they plan to put this to a vote. We will do our best to keep everyone updated on the future of our 80-year-old organization but in the meantime, we would encourage you to raise any concerns around the future of emergency medical services in our town with our elected officials.

On Monday May 10th, 2021 at a public session starting at 7PM the Mayor and Council of Ridgefield NJ will vote to decide the future of our 80-year-old volunteer organization, and if we will be replaced by an outside ambulance service.

We would encourage anyone who cares about the future of our organization to attend the council meeting in person at the Ridgefield Community Center located at 725 Slocum Ave, Ridgefield, NJ 07657 or contact the members of the Mayor and Council directly and let them know your thoughts in advance of the meeting.

Thank you in advance,

The Membership of Ridgefield Volunteer Ambulance Corps

Our organization is currently running dangerously low on N95 and surgical masks for patients and crews due to the ongoing crisis. We have been trying to stock up on masks since late January, but have only been able to get one 10 pack from our supplier. The state of NJs office of emergency management isn’t providing any units to local agency’s (most likely because they don’t have them) and the county and town OEMS organizations are in the same boat as us. If you work at a private business that happens to get stock of masks like Home Depot, Lowe’s, hardware, or paint stores please consider contacting us directly if you get any in stock and allowing us to buy them from you at the standard price before they go on shelves. We are not trying to hoard supplies, we’re just trying to get minimal personal protective equipment required to allow us to continue to serve our community. If you can help out please respond to this post and I will send you my cell number to coordinate. - Captain Jeffrey Ward

BARRIER PROTECTION - Earlier today, Rescue Engine 33 responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a police department unit on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. Upon arrival, Rescue Engine 33 positioned on the roadway as to provide barrier protection for Fire, EMS and Law Enforcement Officials. Moments later, a civilian vehicle crashed into the rear, driver side corner at a high rate of speed. None of the members of Rescue Engine 33 were injured.

In the recent past, other fire department vehicles have been struck while providing barrier protection on high speed roadways. Today's incident reinforces the fact that barrier protection is of the utmost importance for the safety of our members and the citizens we serve.
