Update on New St/Pound St sidewalks:
Tomorrow Wednesday January 3rd 7:30 pm in TOWNHALL Conference room Sidewalk vote. IN PERSON
*** VOTING YES will allow the Town to use its Cash flow as a GRANT REIMBURSABLES fund for constructing sidewalks on New Street/Pound street at NO COST TO YOU ***
The Special Town Meeting for residents will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at 7:30pm in the Town Hall Large Conference on Main Street to vote on State of CT Grant Allocation of Reimbursable Funds Requests. You must be present in person to vote.
The grant of 370,000 USD has already been allocated by the State of CT for construction of the sidewalks on New/Pound street. Since this is a grant and not a loan there are NO out-of-pocket costs for us and all the work is covered by the Grant money. The construction plans have been approved and a bid accepted by the Town and State. Target date for initiating the work is ~ April 2024.
So What are we exactly voting on?
- The vote is to allow the Town to use its “cash flow” to front the work (referred to as GRANT REIMBUSABLE FUNDS in the Town announcement).
- What that means is the Town pays directly the contractors construction cost and then gets reimbursed by the State.
- Use of Town Cash flow is a standard procedure for the Town to front the work. NO Town MONEY is used.
- Invoices will be submitted on a monthly basis to the State and the Town gets reimbursed within approximately 45 days.
VOTING YES will allow the Town to use its Cash flow as a GRANT REIMBURSABLES fund to start building the sidewalks on New Street/Pound street at NO COST TO YOU.
