It's never too early to start reading to your little one! Bedtime is a great time, but sprinkle it throughout your day!

The benefits of reading at every stage of a child’s development are well documented. Happily, raising a reader is fun, rewarding and relatively easy.

Sleep Awareness Week continues! When going through a tough phase, whether it is teething, rolling, sleep training, etc. it is important to think that this too shall pass. They will not be teething forever. They will eventually learn to roll onto their back. They can and will sleep through the night or lengthen their nap. With consistency from you...they will learn to sleep. Some kiddos need more help than others. Choosing your method and having all caretakers follow through is so important. Be consistent and your child will thank you! :) Happy Sleeping!

Day #2 of Sleep Awareness week.
Keep the sleep environment safe. American Academy of Pediatrics recommends NOTHING in the crib with your baby for the first year. This is taken directly from their safe sleep recommendations:

"Avoid use of soft bedding, including crib bumpers, blankets, pillows and soft toys. The crib should be bare."

It looks desolate- but keep that crib empty except for baby, and a tight fitting crib sheet!

Happy Sleep Awareness Week! To celebrate I will post a quick tip every day this week!

Quick Tip #1: Always put your baby to sleep on their back. This is posted and talked about everywhere, but some people don't do it! Don't fear a flat spot, bald spot, etc. Do what is safest. Put your baby to sleep on their back. Every. Time.

Happy Sleeping!

Sleep logs. Keep them when working on sleep for your little one. Keeping an eye on the clock and noting length of wakings, how long the nap was, etc. will help you see progress faster and in a clear, black and white way. It also holds you accountable!

Free tip Tuesday (on Wednesday!)
Life happens. Some days your child will have terrible naps, naps that are mostly on the go, shorter, etc. It happens. As much as you want to keep them on their schedule, things come up. I have posted before about the 80/20 rule. Try and stay on schedule 80% of the time. This comes out to be less often than you realize. However, if you do have a crazy day, get right back to schedule as soon as you can. Crazy day of little to no naps? EARLY to bed! Reset the nap schedule the next day. There may be a little more protesting, but it will be worth it!

Free Tip Tuesday:

Have an upcoming family event but are worried about the effect it will have on your child and their sleep? Follow the rule of 80/20. 80%of the time be sure to keep your child on their sleep schedule. 20% of the time feel at liberty to attend that event knowing that your child will bounce back from the sleep schedule disruption. Be sure that the next day you are right back on track. They might be more overtired, so they might fight you on sleep. Hold the course and they will fall right back into the happy, sleepy groove.

Free Tip Tuesday:

During wake times, try to expose your little one to as much natural light and fresh air as possible. Don't be afraid to take your child outside even if it is a bit chilly. Use layers to keep them warm. The wind tickling their face, the birds chirping, water running, etc will be new sensory experiences for them. It helps their brains grow! Then, when it is sleep time, keep the environment calm, dim, and more quiet. They will get the message that sleep time is approaching.
