Tonight is International Bat Night, a 30-year tradition of celebrating the world's bats, organized by Eurobats in 1997. Bats control mosquito and other insect populations, reduing diseases and keeping pests under control for agriculture. They are also pollinators. We can thank bats for healthier crops, more biodiversity, and more resilient ecosystems. Do you know why bats can hang upside down? Because their blood flows wingtip to wingtip instead of from head to toe.

Learn more about bats by searching our library catalog or using one of our science resources like Power Knowledge Life Science found at https://www.fvrl.org/resources/science-and-technology/

Infant & Toddler Feeding Support
Thursday, September 03, 2026
12:30pm–1:30pm

Join us each month to discuss infant and toddler feeding in a supportive, community environment. Led by International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs), this group covers a wide range of topics, including breast/bodyfeeding, pumping, bottle feeding, introducing solids, and weaning.

Because feeding is deeply connected to daily life, we also welcome open discussions on related parenting topics such as sleep patterns, soothing a crying baby, and navigating the postpartum adjustment. Come connect, share experiences, and get expert guidance on your family's feeding journey.

National Park Week is underway!

Not sure what kind of park trip you’re looking for? We have options.

🌲 Explore nature: Watch bison in Yellowstone (From a safe distance. We’ve been over this.), hike among the giant trees in Sequoia, or hit the trails of Great Smoky Mountains.

🏛️ Explore history: Walk the battlefields of Gettysburg, explore the revolutionary history of Independence Hall, or learn about the Civil Rights Movement in Birmingham.

🌊 Explore something unexpected: Paddle the waters of Everglades, explore the underground in Mammoth Cave, or take in the rocky coastline of Acadia.

With more than 400 national parks across the country, there’s something for just about everyone, and probably a park, story, landscape, or experience you haven’t discovered yet.

Pack some snacks, check the weather, make a plan, and go explore your national parks.
