On Thursday, May 28 Mayor Cole proclaimed June 2026 "Pride Month" and encouraged all residents to make Ridgefield a stronger community by promoting inclusiveness, celebrating diversity, supporting all fellow community members, and rejecting hate and bias.

Members of City Council formally presented this proclamation to two groups: Evoke Cascadia and the Q***r Youth Resource Center.

Jessica Cole accepted the proclamation on behalf of Evoke Cascadia, a nonprofit committed to elevating underrepresented communities and invited everyone to the Battle Ground Pride Event on August 1.

Melissa Morris accepted the proclamation on behalf of the Q***r Youth Resource Center, a non-profit that works to empower Q***r futures by building community, promoting inclusion and fostering growth in Southwest Washington.

Congratulations to Officer Welty who has completed his field training and has been issued a take home vehicle for solo patrol in Ridgefield!

From Officer Welty:

"Throughout my life I have had an interest in public service with a little extra interest in law enforcement. I had many positive contacts with police while I grew up and the possibility of becoming an officer one day kept me out of trouble. I joined the Air Force after high school and spent time in both Active Duty and the Reserves. I deployed to the Middle East part way through my Field Training here at Ridgefield, so hitting the road on my own has been a long time coming.

In the military I had the chance to work with various agencies throughout the country who further nurtured my interest to be an officer. I look forward to the opportunity to be a positive contact for the youth in Ridgefield and provide guidance before they have the chance to make too many poor decisions.

As Ridgefield grows, I want to help the community to be a safe place for families to raise their children, and for all community members to live, recreate, and conduct business."

Congratulations, Officer Welty!
We're glad you're part of the team.

Our city thrives under the strong vision and leadership of our dedicated City Councilmembers.

For our final shoutout of Public Service Recognition Month, we’re recognizing the seven members of Ridgefield City Council for their commitment to lead, represent and engage.

As the political leadership of the city, City Council establishes a vision for the city, sets policy, including adopting the budget, and represents the City locally and beyond. In addition to public meetings, ribbon cuttings and community celebrations, Councilmembers spend significant time collaborating with local partners, advocating for funding to support Ridgefield projects, reviewing policies and plans, and listening to residents’ perspectives on the opportunities and challenges facing our community.

Thank you to Ridgefield City Council for your service to our community.

It’s Building Safety Month, and our Community Development Team is recognizing Week 4: Communities Without Limits (May 25–31) which showcases the importance of accessibility in building construction and design.

Accessibility is a key part of building safety and inclusion. Features like step-free entrances, accessible routes, grab bars, ramps, clear signage, accessible controls, parking, and safe egress planning help ensure homes, workplaces, and public spaces work for everyone. Accessibility standards create safer, more usable environments for people of all ages and abilities.

Thank you for following along throughout May for Building Safety Month tips, resources, and highlights.
