🌀 Know the Difference: Tropical Storm WATCH vs. WARNING 🌀

A Tropical Storm WATCH means tropical storm conditions are POSSIBLE within the next 48 hours.

A Tropical Storm WARNING means tropical storm conditions are EXPECTED within the next 36 hours.

When warnings are issued, strong winds can make outdoor preparations difficult or dangerous. Stay informed, make a plan, and be Weather-Ready.

Hurricane season is around the corner, so now’s a great time to get your home storm-ready. A few simple things can make a big difference:

• Trim trees and overhanging branches
• Bring in or secure outdoor furniture, tools, toys, and decorations
• Check doors and windows for gaps and add weather stripping or caulk if needed
• Clear out gutters and yard debris
• Have a safe place planned to park your vehicles

A little prep now can save a lot of stress later! 🌪️

🌀 Build Your Hurricane Kit Before the Storm Hits 🌀

Hurricane season is coming. Now is the time to build your emergency supply kit.

But remember: one size does NOT fit all. Your kit should be tailored to your household’s specific needs. Take time now to walk through your home and ask: What would each person need to be safe and comfortable for several days?

🌪️ Hurricane Preparedness Month 🌧️

May is Hurricane Preparedness Month in South Carolina, and we will be sharing hurricane prep tips throughout the month to help residents get ready for the upcoming hurricane season.

Hurricanes bring more than just wind. In addition to high winds, they can also cause storm surge, heavy rain and flooding, rip currents, and tornadoes.

Know the difference:
Watch = Conditions are possible
Warning = Dangerous weather is happening or expected

Don’t ignore the wind. High winds can be dangerous, so seek shelter when they are forecast.

🔥 Burn Ban Reminder 🔥

A statewide burn ban remains in effect, and our area is currently experiencing very dry conditions. Burning of any kind is not allowed at this time.

Violations of the burn ban can result in county fines starting at $500, with even higher penalties possible from forestry officials.
