As Breastfeeding Awareness Month comes to a close, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the importance of continuing to support, educate, and advocate for families throughout their breastfeeding journeys. 💜

Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the 2026 Making an Impact in the Lactation Community (MILC) Conference, hosted by the Mississippi Public Health Institute (MSPHI) and the Mississippi Breastfeeding Coalition (MSBFC).

The conference brought together lactation professionals, nurses, physicians, WIC professionals, public health partners, community organizations, and advocates from across Mississippi—all committed to strengthening the support available to mothers and families.

💜 Breastfeeding is more than an infant health issue, it is also maternal health issue, too.

The benefits of breastfeeding extend to both mother and baby, and increasing access to education, support, and resources is an important part of improving maternal and infant health outcomes.

As we close out this month of awareness, I’m reminded that our work cannot end when August does. Supporting breastfeeding means creating environments where families have the information, resources, encouragement, and choice they need to meet their feeding goals.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn, connect, and continue thinking about how we can strengthen support for mothers and families across Mississippi. 💜

COMMUNITY 💜

Earlier this month, we were able to donate a car seat to a mom in need at Haven: Pregnancy, Wellness & Women's Health!

Donations from our Maternal Health Resource Expo and the generosity of our community partners help us continue supporting moms and families beyond the event itself.

This is what community looks like: resources shared, needs met, and families supported. 🫶🏾

Thank you to every organization, partner, and community member who continues to pour into this work. Together, we’re making a difference for Mississippi moms and families.

Black Maternal Mental Health Week reminds us that every parent deserves to feel heard, supported, and cared for throughout pregnancy and the postpartum journey.

Research shows that even after accounting for other health factors, Black parents are about 30% more likely than White parents to be diagnosed with postpartum depression. These differences reflect more than individual risk. They point to the ongoing impact of inequities in our healthcare system and the need for culturally responsive, equitable care.

If you or someone you love is struggling during pregnancy or after birth, you are not alone. Support is available.

💙 National Maternal Mental Health Hotline: 1-833-852-6262

Together, we can reduce stigma, increase awareness, and help ensure every family has access to the care and support they deserve.

As the Outreach and Engagement Lead for our PSI MS Chapter, it was incredibly fulfilling to lead our chapter’s first major outreach event of the year.

Serving our community has always been my number one passion, and seeing moms come together to rest, reconnect, and support one another reminded me why this work matters so much.

Thank you to our amazing partners, JXN Motherhood and Pailin Piper Berry with Muscle Mommy Pilates, and to every mom who joined us. Your presence made the morning so special.

This is just the beginning! I’m excited for all that’s ahead as we continue creating meaningful opportunities to support the mental health and well-being of Mississippi mothers. 💙

Now that I’m home and finally unpacked, I’ve had a chance to reflect on what an incredible week the Postpartum Support International Conference was.

There was so much knowledge shared, but honestly, what I’ll remember most are the conversations. Meeting people from across the country who care so deeply about mothers, babies, and families was incredibly refreshing. Every conversation reminded me that there are so many people working every day to make things better, and it gave me a renewed sense of hope.

I came home with pages of notes, new ideas, and a growing list of things I want to learn more about. I’m especially excited to bring what I learned back to Mississippi to share with my peers, mentors, the PSI Mississippi Chapter, and as I begin my PhD journey this fall.

A heartfelt thank you to Postpartum Support International and Alliance for People of Color for creating a space where learning, collaboration, and connection come together so naturally. It was an honor to learn from so many passionate leaders and advocates, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of this community.

I’m leaving inspired, re-energized, and excited to put these ideas into action. Until next year! 💙

If you know me, you know I love community!

Throwing it back to the Spring Into Wellness: Mindful Movement Event, where community came together to promote wellness and connection!

This was a special time as May is recognized as Maternal Mental Heath Awareness Month and Therapy Plus had the opportunity to distribute 30+ Maternal Mental Health Awareness Kits to mothers, families, and community advocates, encouraging them to use the resource for themselves or share these valuable resources with expecting and postpartum mothers throughout their communities.

Every resource shared, every conversation had, and every connection made helps us move closer to a world where mothers feel supported, informed, and empowered to seek help when they need it.

A huge thank you to Melissa Lyles, Event Coordinator, and the incredible women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Upsilon Upsilon Omega Chapter for the invitation and for creating space for our community to come together in such a meaningful way. It was an honor to be part of this event and connect with so many amazing individuals committed to health and wellness.

Fatherhood can be one of life’s most rewarding experiences—but it can also be overwhelming at times.

Many dads find themselves carrying the weight of new responsibilities, sleepless nights, changing relationships, financial pressures, and the expectation that they should always “have it together.”

The truth is that fathers can experience depression, anxiety, stress, and emotional exhaustion during pregnancy and after the arrival of a baby, too.

At Therapy Plus, we want fathers to know that you don’t have to navigate these challenges alone. Reaching out for support is not a sign of weakness, but it’s an investment in your wellbeing, your family, and your future.

This Father’s Day, we’re encouraging dads to prioritize their mental health just as they prioritize caring for everyone else.

💙 It’s okay to ask for help.
💙 It’s okay to talk about how you’re feeling.
💙 It’s okay to need support.

Because strong fathers need support, too.

I am incredibly proud to share that I am a named contributor to the Louisiana Pregnancy-Associated Mortality Review 2020-2022 Report, specifically speaking to the work incorporating interviews with families and loved ones impacted by maternal mortality.

For nearly three years, I have held conversations with grieving Louisiana mothers, fathers, sisters, and children, asking them to trust me with the story of someone they lost. That work is sacred. Every conversation has shaped how I understand what it means to truly center the human experience in systems that are supposed to protect us.

The stories shared in these interviews do what data alone cannot. They add the human lens. They illuminate what was felt, what was missed, and what mattered most to the people living through it. Storytelling is one of the most powerful tools we have in the maternal health space, and when families are willing to share their truth, it has the ability to change the questions we ask, the recommendations we make, and ultimately, the care that follows.

This report represents years of listening, bearing witness, and honoring the lives behind the numbers. It is a testament to what becomes possible when we commit to the human story.

I am grateful to the Louisiana PAMR team for the trust they placed in me, and I am honored to carry the stories of these families forward in this work.

This is why the work matters.💜

Conversations supporting maternal mental health continue! Last week, I had an amazing time joining my first WLBT live news segment with Holly Emery, centering Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month.

These are the kinds of conversations that help spread awareness, reduce stigma, and increase access to resources for mothers and families.

Together, we can create supportive communities where moms feel seen, heard, and supported! 💙
