This page is about Givhans Ferry State Park. The property is the site of an old ferry that was used in the 1700's and 1800's along the Charleston to Augusta trail. The property was donated to the state in October of 1934, and was developed into a park by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC's). The park is located on the Edisto River, which is the longest free-flowing blackwater stream in North Am

erica. The park has campsites, cabins, picnic shelters, picnic areas, two trails, and Riverfront Hall...a facility that host weddings, family reunions, and other functions. After 35 years of service, including 24 at Givhans Ferry. Park Ranger Steve Dowdey has decided to call it a career and will be retiring soon. Steve has made a huge contribution to Givhans and has seen the park go through many changes over his time here. We thank Steve for his many years of dedicated service and wish him nothing but the best as he enjoys his retirement!! Congratulations!!
