Our last meeting in June we said goodbye to Reverend Robert Miller, a longtime member of our club, who coordinated lunches, served on the fundraising dinner committee and was Program Chair. He will certainly be missed and we wish him good luck on his new position as hospital Chaplain at Munson Medical Center, Traverse City, MI. It also marked the end of the two term presidency for Todd A. Griffith.

Our lunch speaker today was Joel Mitchel, of Beekman Wines & Liquors, 246 Rock Road, Glen Rock, who is very passionate about the Wine Industry and well-versed regarding Vineyard Operations throughout the world. Is that a box of interesting Wine for tasting he brought with him, next to our bell? If you were a Rotarian, you would know.  Please consider joining our club!!

We have had some very accomplished people provide some really amazing presentations, but Gregory Hammond Olsen, B.S., B. Eng., M.S., Ph.D, tops the list with PowerPoint photos he took himself from the International Space Station!! We were very fortunate that Dr. Olsen also shared insight into his business successes! Celestine Taieb from Source Compost was our presenter for our meeting this week. The amount by percent of food waste that we pay Municipal tipping fees for, along with the disproportionately high amount of dangerous methane gas food waste in our garbage stream causes was alarming. Thanks to Celestine for waking us all up on the importance of composting!

In recognition of National Police Women’s Day coming up on September 12, 2024, we invited female Officers from all three towns that our club represents to be our honored guests for lunch, and requested Ridgewood Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke, Retired, to be both our speaker and the “M.C.” of today’s meeting. Chief Luthcke read a biography and introduced each Officer; each of whom had such impressive backgrounds it led to applause! Left to right all from Ridgewood Police, Chief Luthcke, P.O. Shane Broglia, and P.O. Shannon Greer, from Glen Rock Police P.O. Annamarie Mattina, and from Ho-Ho-Kus Police Sgt. M Mosca. Such outstanding officers!!!
