Ridgewood Spotlighted at NJ Sustainability Summit

Village of Ridgewood was proudly represented at the 2026 NJ Sustainability Summit on Friday, May 15, where our Municipal Recycling Coordinator, Sean Hamlin, participated as a panel speaker during “Food Waste Management: New State Requirements & Local Program Spotlights.”

The discussion reviewed recent legislation and highlighted innovative local programs. We’re honored that Ridgewood’s efforts were recognized as part of this statewide conversation and proud to see our community spotlighted as a leader in sustainability.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support and participate in our food scrap recycling initiatives — together, we’re making a difference! 🌎♻️

We’re on a roll, Ridgewood! 🛏️♻️

In 2025, we launched our mattress recycling program and successfully diverted 1.79 tons of waste—saving 40 mattresses from the landfill.

But wait until you hear this: In just the first four months of 2026, we’ve already doubled that total! 🙌

That is a massive win for our community and our planet. 🌎 Every mattress recycled is more space in our landfills and more materials recovered for a second life.

Thank you for making this program a runaway success! Got an old mattress taking up space? Don't toss it—recycle it responsibly with us.

To participate, residents should:
• Be prepared to show ID, 🆔
• Bag each mattress/box spring (required) 🪳
•Deliver each mattress/box spring to the recycling center 🛻
• See the attendant on duty for assistance and follow the attendant’s instructions👷

🌱 Let’s help keep our community beautiful this spring! 🌱

If you’re heading out for a walk, consider bringing a bag (or two!) and picking up litter along the way. Even a few minutes can make an impact.

🗑️ Pro tip: Bring two bags—one for trash and one for recyclables. Many items like bottles and cans can be recycled, helping reduce waste even further.💚

With the snow and ice finally melted, you may notice that there is a whole lot of litter out there on the streets that was hidden by the snow.

Consider grabbing some work gloves and a garbage bag and cleaning up the litter in your neighborhood! You will not only be helping your hometown and the environment, but you may inspire others to chip in and do the same.
