This summer, Garfield Re-2 took the stage!

Garfield Re-2 leaders didn’t just attend professional conferences this summer.
They helped lead the conversation.

From national school communications to statewide education and technology leadership, members of the Re-2 team shared their experience, ideas and expertise with colleagues from across Colorado and the country.

Our leaders shared their expertise in leadership, communications, and educational technology with colleagues from across Colorado and the country.

Jenny Nipper and Roger Gose presented at the Colorado Association of School Executives conference, where Gose also represented the Colorado Association of Leaders in Educational Technology as its president. Theresa Hamilton presented at the National School Public Relations Association conference.

When our staff is invited to share what they know, it says something about the expertise that lives right here in Garfield Re-2.

ROGER GOSE HONORED WITH COLORADO CASEY AWARD

Sometimes the people making a difference in our schools aren’t standing in front of a classroom.

Garfield Re-2 Technology Director, Roger Gose, was recently recognized by the Colorado Association of School Executives with its CASEY Award, honoring a non-educator whose support and service have made a significant contribution to public education.

For Roger Gose, technology has never really been about technology.

For nearly 30 years, the work has been about making sure students have access to the tools and opportunities they need, no matter where they live.

That work has taken Roger from wiring closets in Garfield Re-2 to conversations at the state Capitol.

CASE recognized Roger for his leadership on educational technology issues across Colorado, including his work helping school districts navigate artificial intelligence and advocating for public schools as state policy was being developed.

And much of that work happens exactly the way Roger believes it should:
Quietly, behind the scenes, making sure things work for kids.

“A kid in Silt deserves the same shot as a kid in Cherry Creek.”

That, Roger told education leaders from across Colorado, has been the purpose behind his career.

Rural students don’t get to choose where the fiber ends. So Roger has spent nearly three decades helping make sure geography doesn’t determine opportunity.

And while the CASEY Award bears his name, Roger was quick to share it.

“An award is a way of putting one name on the work of many.”

For Roger, those “many” include his technology team, colleagues across Garfield Re-2 and the people whose work keeps schools running every day.
Congratulations, Roger, on a recognition that reflects a career spent creating opportunities for kids.

Congratulations to Rifle High School junior Ty Clark and class of 2025 graduate Joey Spritzer. Their designs were integrated into Rifle's newest park - Birch Park. Spritzer designed the paper airplane archway at the entrance to the park, while Clark designed the ziplines in the playground, one of which is ADA-accessible. The initial concepts for these features were born in the Rifle High School engineering classes. Great job Ty and Joey and all of the teachers and staff who supported their vision along the way!!

As common sayings go, communities can go only as far as their next generation will lead them, and the Town of Rifle is taking that to heart.  The opening of Birch Park in north Rifle...

Garfield Re-2 Budget Continues Investment in People, Reduces Planned Deficit
The Garfield Re-2 Board of Education approved a $90.3 million budget for the 2026-27 school year on June 24. The budget continues a long-term strategy of investing in employees while reducing the district's planned General Fund deficit.
Three years ago, the Board approved a four percent increase to the district's salary base while preserving annual step-and-lane increases. District leaders knew the decision would require temporary, significant deficit spending, and they created a long-term plan to gradually return the district's operating budget toward balance.

Garfield Re-2 Takes the Next Step in Bringing Its Portrait of a Graduate to Life

Four years ago, when Garfield Re-2 asked students, families, staff, and community members what every graduate should know beyond reading, writing, and math, the answers were consistent.

The community wanted graduates who could communicate effectively, solve problems, work well with others, adapt to change, lead with confidence, and persevere through challenges.

Those conversations helped shape the district's Strategic Plan and, more importantly, the Portrait of a Graduate - a community-defined vision of the knowledge, skills, and characteristics every Garfield Re-2 student should develop before graduation.

Three years later, the district is investing deeply in the Portrait of a Graduate.
