Today, the Rifton Fire Department would like to wish a very Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible mothers in our community and within our fire family.

Today we recognize the strength, compassion, sacrifice, and unconditional love that mothers show every single day. Whether you are raising children, supporting your family behind the scenes, serving your community, or balancing it all while answering the call — your dedication never goes unnoticed.

We especially want to thank the mothers who serve as firefighters, EMS providers, dispatchers, caregivers, and volunteers, as well as the moms at home who support those who respond at all hours of the day and night. Your love and support help keep our department and community strong.

From all of us at the Rifton Fire Department, we wish you a day filled with love, appreciation, and time spent with those who matter most.

Happy international firefighters Day
Today, the Rifton Fire Department proudly recognizes and honors the dedication, courage, and sacrifice of firefighters everywhere—especially our own.

Our members answer the call at all hours, leaving behind their families, their homes, and their daily lives to protect and serve this community. Whether it’s fighting fires, responding to emergencies, providing EMS care, or supporting our neighbors in their toughest moments—this job is built on commitment, teamwork, and heart.

Being a firefighter isn’t just what we do—it’s who we are.

We also want to thank the families who stand behind our members. Your support makes this mission possible.

To every firefighter—past and present—thank you for your service, your strength, and your unwavering dedication.

Today, we honor you. Every day, we stand beside you.

In honor of teacher appreciation week Rifton Fire Department would like to take a moment to recognize and thank the incredible teachers in our community.

We are truly grateful for the opportunity to visit your classrooms, teach fire prevention, and connect with your students. Your willingness to welcome us into your schools allows us to not only share life-saving education, but also to build meaningful relationships with the children and families we proudly serve.

Teachers do so much more than educate — you inspire, support, guide, and shape the future of our community every single day. The care, patience, and dedication you show does not go unnoticed.

Thank you for partnering with us, for trusting us with your students, and for everything you do to keep our community strong, safe, and connected.

We appreciate you more than words can express.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and it’s a critical reminder that behind the gear, every firefighter is human. In the volunteer fire service, we pride ourselves on strength, resilience, and always showing up—but the reality is that many of our brothers and sisters are silently struggling. Firefighters face repeated exposure to trauma, high stress, and emotional strain, and the statistics are real—on average, between 100 and 200 firefighters die by su***de each year. That’s not just a number—that’s members of our fire service family. At Rifton Fire Department, we stand together not just on the fireground, but in life. It’s okay to not be okay. Check in on each other, talk openly, and never hesitate to reach out. No one fights alone. Your life matters, and your story isn’t over.

Trust, communication, and brotherhood form the indispensable foundation of a high-functioning fire department, serving as the currency by which personnel operate safely and effectively on and off the fireground. Trust allows a firefighter to confidently enter a hazardous environment knowing their partner has their back, reducing stress-driven cognitive overload. Communication is the essential, clear, and concise transmission of information—verbal or non-verbal—that ensures crew integrity during the chaos of an emergency. Brotherhood provides the emotional and psychological support system that creates resilience against the traumatic events firefighters experience, transforming a team of coworkers into a supportive family.
Training specifically in these areas is crucial because trust is built before it is needed—in the station, during shared tasks, and through proactive, collaborative drills, rather than during the crisis itself. Without training that fosters these elements, a crew risks becoming a collection of individuals rather than a cohesive unit, which can directly lead to compromised safety and fatal outcomes. Training in communication ensures that high-stress, noisy environments do not cause errors that lead to injuries or loss of life. Ultimately, this training ensures that everyone “goes home,” building a culture of competence and mutual respect that extends beyond the firehouse and strengthens the department’s service to the community. Great job from everyone who attended and participated. Can’t wait to do another one
