The new spring/summer StoryWalk® is officially up and ready to enjoy! 🌿📖

It was a beautiful morning on the trail as our library staff and dedicated Friends of the Library members worked together to swap out the displays and welcome our newest featured title: Over in the Forest: A woodland baby animal counting book by Marianne Berkes, illustrated by Jill Dubin.

This sweet, colorful story invites children and families to count along as they discover baby animals in their forest homes. With rhythmic text, seek-and-find fun, and beautiful nature-inspired artwork, it’s a perfect story for curious young explorers, and a wonderful reason to get outside and enjoy the trail!

After you complete the StoryWalk®, please take a moment to scan the QR code in the final display and “sign” our Virtual Guestbook! 📝 We don’t ask for any personal information - just a few simple statistics to help us learn more about how the StoryWalk® is being enjoyed. You can rate the trail/book, tell us how many adults and children are in your group, let us know where you’re visiting from, and share any comments you’d like to leave.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helps make this project possible. We hope families will enjoy a peaceful walk, a wonderful story, and a little woodland magic along the way! 🦌🌲✨

What a beautiful and heartfelt way to wrap up our Spring Story Time with Lager series. 🐾📚💛

Our final session was filled with so much joy! We were thrilled to welcome four new friends, and as always, our young readers truly shone. Brielle brought her own book to share, while Ellie and Caleb each took a turn reading stories to the group, and did a wonderful job! Even Miss Marcia and Lager joined in on the storytelling fun.

We talked about our “Buckets of Joy” and went on the most imaginative bear hunt, where the kiddos helped decide what we discovered along the way - a lake of marshmallows, a cheetah, and a wolf… though we never did find that bear! 😂

To end our time together, each child who wanted to gave Lager a treat, followed by lots of pets, smiles, and heartfelt goodbyes. As a special send-off, each child also received a gift bag filled with fun goodies, including puppy stickers, mini coloring and activity books, dog-themed slap bracelets, crayons, and colorful paw stickers. 🐶🎨

It was a truly special morning, made even sweeter by the kind words from parents and the connections formed over these past weeks.

We are so incredibly grateful to Miss Marcia, De, and of course, our lovable Lager, for sharing their time, kindness, and joy with our library family. This program has meant so much to all of us, and we will miss these wonderful mornings dearly. 💙

For May’s Read with Your Librarian selection, we’re heading west with Riders of the Purple Sage by Zane Grey! First published in 1912, this sweeping, romantic adventure helped bring the Western genre into mainstream popularity and became a major influence on the stories that followed.

Zane Grey’s own life was full of interesting turns. He studied at the University of Pennsylvania on a baseball scholarship, worked as a dentist, wrote outdoor articles in the evenings, and eventually became one of America’s first millionaire authors. Much of his writing was inspired by real journeys through the American West, where he carefully observed the landscapes, people, conflicts, and conversations that would later shape his fiction.

Though traditional Westerns may not dominate bookshelves the way they once did, their themes are still very much alive in modern storytelling - from space Westerns like Star Wars and Firefly to mystery series like Longmire and Joe Pickett. Join us this month as we revisit a title that helped shape the genre and left a lasting mark on American popular fiction!

Another wonderful Story Time with Lager is in the books! 🐾📚🌷

Our young readers were shining bright this week! Caleb and Brielle wrapped up You Read to Me, I Read to You and did a fantastic job - way to go! We also enjoyed stories from Miss Marcia, Faye, and Ellie, who all helped bring our story time to life.

We spent some time talking about our “Buckets of Joy,” and in honor of Earth Day, Miss Marcia and Lager had a special surprise for everyone: Pepper plants that Miss Marcia started herself! 🌱💚

The kids were engaged, excited, and having a great time, and honestly, so were we! 😊

We can’t wait to do it all again next week!

Tomorrow is National Support Teen Literature Day! 📚

At Eccles-Lesher Memorial Library, we believe teens deserve great books, welcoming spaces, and the freedom to discover stories that speak to them. Our teen area offers young adult books, games, puzzles, art supplies, and room to relax, explore, and just be themselves.

A good book can entertain, challenge, comfort, and help us see the world through someone else’s eyes, and that matters at every age, especially during the teen years.

Stop in, check out our YA collection, and help us celebrate the power of reading for pleasure. 💙
