📚🌿 The Secret Garden Bookstore Needs Your Books! 🌿📚

Have some gently used books at home that are ready for a new reader? The Friends of the Library would love to give them a new home in The Secret Garden Bookstore!

Book sales from the bookstore serve as an important fundraiser for the Friends and help support Eccles-Lesher Memorial Library. We are especially in need of fiction and children’s books, although other clean, gently used books are welcome as well.
We simply ask that donations be in good, clean condition and ready for someone else to enjoy. If you’ve recently cleaned off a bookshelf, finished a stack of great reads, or have books your family has outgrown, please consider passing them along to us!

Thank you for helping keep The Secret Garden stocked with stories and for supporting your library at the same time! 📖🌸

Enjoy the rest of your summer, and we will see you on Tuesday, September 8th, at 11 a.m. for the next Friends of the Library Meeting!

Thank you to all the families who joined us for our special children’s program, where young guests learned about Christopher Ludwick and enjoyed yummy cookies. We also loved welcoming everyone who attended our Women’s Tea for an afternoon of delicious refreshments, beautiful teacups, wonderful conversation, and a memorable visit with Martha Washington!

Our heartfelt thanks go to Mary Lea Lucas for bringing history to life, as well as to the Friends of the Library members and volunteers who devoted so much time and care to planning, decorating, preparing food, serving guests, and making both programs possible. Every thoughtful detail helped create a truly lovely day at Eccles-Lesher Memorial Library.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this celebration so special!

🐺📚 July’s Court of Swords & Spice Gathering! 📚🐺

This month, we discussed Dire Bound and its newly released sequel, Fury Bound, by Sable Sorensen. Reading both books gave us even more characters, plot twists, theories, and strong opinions to sort through! We also changed up our usual discussion format with a book club dice game, although we promptly abandoned the actual dice and simply chose whichever prompts from the game cards sounded the most interesting. Rules are really more like suggestions at book club. 😂

Naturally, the conversation eventually wandered into Prythian as we discussed the upcoming sixth and seventh A Court of Thorns and Roses books, arriving October 27 and January 12. For romantasy readers, Sarah J. Maas is essentially the queen, and her books have become the standard against which so many others are measured - for better or worse!

We enjoyed a spread of cheeses, meats, and crackers, fresh vegetables, and assorted slices of cheesecake. Because nothing says “light refreshments” quite like finishing everything with cheesecake!

Next month, we’ll be reading Iron & Embers by Helen Scheuerer. Several members have enjoyed other books by this author, so we’re excited to see what everyone thinks!

Another evening of books, snacks, laughter, and happily chaotic conversation is officially in the books!

🍪 Calling All Bakers! 🍪

The Annual Friends of the Library Cookie Walk is returning during Southern Clarion County Community Days on Sunday, August 9th, and we need the help of our wonderful community bakers to make it a sweet success!

We’re asking for donations of homemade cookies of all varieties. Please label any cookies that contain nuts so shoppers can make informed choices. Donations may be dropped off at the library on Saturday, August 8th, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

During the Cookie Walk, the Friends will be offering:

🍪 One dozen cookies: $5
💧 Bottled water: $1

Every purchase helps support children’s programs at Eccles-Lesher Memorial Library, so your baking talents will help bring even more learning, creativity, and fun to local children!

Thank you for helping the Friends make this beloved community tradition another delicious success! ❤️📚

🚨 **LOCATION CHANGE — PLEASE SHARE!** 🚨

Due to the impending inclement weather forecast for tomorrow, our End of Summer Reading Pool Party will now be held at Eccles-Lesher Memorial Library instead of Union COG Pool Park.

📅 Tuesday, July 21
⏰ Still beginning at 12:00 p.m.
📍 Eccles-Lesher Memorial Library

Even though we’re moving the celebration indoors, we’ll still have plenty of end-of-summer fun! We’ll tally tickets earned through reading challenges, program attendance, and Lambert’s Side Quests, draw the winners of our prize baskets, and enjoy snacks and light refreshments together. 🦖📚🎟️

We know many families were looking forward to swimming, and we will share more information as soon as possible regarding a free swim day for Summer Reading participants.

Please help us spread the word about the location change, and we’ll see everyone at the library tomorrow at noon!

Friendly reminder: Please do NOT post Lambert’s location in the comments!

We want all of our Summer Reading kids and families to enjoy figuring out the clue and going on the scavenger hunt themselves. Guesses are fun, but please keep the actual location a secret!

🦖 Lambert has stomped off to a brand-new local business! 🦖

Our Summer Reading Side Quest continues this week, and Lambert is hiding somewhere new in town. Take a close look at today’s clue photo and see if you can figure out where our favorite library dinosaur has wandered off to!
Once you find him, be sure to get your passport stamped so you can keep working toward your Summer Reading prize.
We’ll post one more clue toward the end of the week for anyone who might still be stumped.
