Beaver Creek Community Association

Beaver Creek Community Association Our goal is to provide up-to-date and accurate information about our Community. Centrally located, our villages start near Exit 293 at McGuireville on I-17.

The unincorporated communities of Lake Montezuma, McGuireville and Rimrock enjoy the pristine mountain air of the Verde Valley. Sycamore and Cottonwood trees line the green belt riparian areas, and several large ponds host migrating birds. We have beautiful dark skies with the Milky Way very visible, and striking views of the red rocks, the riparian area, the golf course, or the ridges, from just

about anywhere in the area. Located one exit south of Sedona, it is 35 minutes to Prescott Valley, 45 minutes to Flagstaff, and 1 hour, 30 minutes from Phoenix. Historic Camp Verde offers many tourist and recreational opportunities and just 15 minutes down the road from there is the old mining town of Jerome, a wonderful place for breakfast and shopping for original works by local artists of the area. Central Lake Montezuma began as a planned area development in the mid-1960s around the Beaver Creek Golf course and includes 36 subdivisions in Beaver Creek. It has a small retail plaza which includes Rollins Park, adult center, a restaurant, dental office, medical office, beauty parlor, healing arts and chiropractor’s offices. The county helped residents create Sycamore Park. This park has a playground, walking trails, picnic areas and access to the creek for swimming and fishing. An oral history of the area can be found in the book, By the Banks of Beaver Creek, by Til Lightbourn and Mary Lyons, Copyright 1989, by the Lake Montezuma Women’s Civic Club, Printed in U.S.A., by Evangel Press. Copies can be purchased from Jeannette Estes (567-5421), at the Camp Verde Historical Society and at Fort Verde State Historical Park. The region is sometimes known as Beaver Creek because the stream has played a large role in the history of the area. The headwaters of Beaver Creek begin in the northern high country and the stream descends from the Mogollon Rim to its junction with the Verde River in lower country at Camp Verde. The total identifiable length of its course is about fifty miles. The area boasts its own school district, (Beaver Creek School District, grades k-8), a modern fire station, a post office and several important tourist attractions. Montezuma Castle and Montezuma Well are two of the most famous attractions. The Castle is an outstanding example of how the ancient ones lived in the walls of the canyon with much of the original dwellings still in place. The Well is about 11,000 years old and was probably formed by the collapse of one of the many limestone caverns which are common in this region. It is an active spring with a constant flow of 1.100 million gallons of water per day with about 10 percent flowing out of the well into an old irrigation ditch that was used for watering farm lands at that time. We invite you to visit us and enjoy the many hiking and biking trails that are in and around our community. This is a wonderful place to live, grow, and retire. We have it all! Four seasons with mild weather, hiking, outdoor activities, an old-time Fourth of July parade, community dinners, a branch library, the Beaver Creek Adult Center, and lots of organizations to make your life interesting.

Dear Neighbors

As you know previously, Yavapai County has officially cited Doug Edgelow’s Sedona Vineyards LLC for lack of water in Montezuma Lake. The hearing will be held on November 12 at 9 AM in Prescott. Meanwhile, Sedona Vineyards LLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on September 24. Chapter 11 is a reorganization of debt. Assets are retained by the owners and the business can keep running. Debts are put on hold as the business works on a plan to repay the debts with their creditors. The Court must then approve the negotiated repayment plan if it meets legal requirements of reorganization. (research provided by Thomas Bonk) The previous owners also specialized in filing bankruptcies. Sadly, this is not unusual for the golf course.

Despite the above, many good things are happening here for you to enjoy in addition to Fort Verde Days coming soon. Hopefully you can find something below to spike your interest and participate.

Potential Wet Beaver Creek Clean Up Day

• One of the recommendations to come out of the public meeting for the Rimrock Drainage Study was a community cleanup day(s) along Wet Beaver Creek. We thought that was a great idea and we would love to help. The Flood Control District would like to supply dumpsters as needed to assist in removing debris from the floodplain in Wet Beaver Creek.

• For those that cannot remove debris from their own property, we may be able to provide assistance, depending on the size of the debris needing to be removed. To make sure we have what we need to be successful, we would need to be prepared for any special requests.

• If you live along Wet Beaver Creek and have any large debris that you cannot remove yourself, or special requirements, please reach out to the Flood Control District at [email protected] or call us at (928) 771-3197 and let us know what you may need in terms of assistance.

• We will work to coordinate the assistance needed and schedule the Wet Beaver Clean Up Days once we can get everything together.

Once a Creeker, always a Creeker" . . . Dedicated to retiring Beaver Creek School

Superintendent Karin Ward

Beaver Creek eNews

June 30, 2024

Dear Neighbors

As we get ready for Thursday’s Independence Celebration here in Beaver Creek, please do not forget about being in the parade. We love to greet all the entries small and large. Don’t hesitate to walk, ride, drive or bike. Seeing someone that we know makes it even more fun. Much preparation has been done for the celebration. The timeline is below. Superintendent Karin Ward steps down tomorrow. Allie Wheeler is the new Superintendent / Principal for Beaver Creek School. Karin has done a magnificent job of representing our small rural school and leaves with the school in good hands. Her eloquent letter is below.

So far, so good. No fire nearby and no flooding. But just in case your home is in a low area or near a wash or below a ridge, a new supply of sand and bags is between the Rimrock Post Office and Beaver Creek Baptist Church.

And progress is being made concerning Montezuma Lake and the ditch system around the former golf course. Last week an environmentalist came to review the ditch plan and lake vegetation with the owner. Fourteen Yavapai County staff members also came to meet with the owner last week. This week two trailers will be here to remove the remaining piles in the lakebed which should take three or four days. The soil engineer will be next to report.

Just a reminder. Montezuma Avenue will be closed from 9 AM to almost 9:30 on the Fourth for the parade with the exception of emergency vehicles.

Dear Beaver Creek Community:

As I prepare to pass the title of superintendent to Mrs. Allie Wheeler on July 1, 2024, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Beaver Creek School Board, community members, staff, and parents of the Beaver Creek School District. Your unwavering support for our children through your time, financial contributions, donations, and thoughts and prayers has been truly invaluable.

During my 20 years in this district, I have had the privilege of encountering countless individuals who have shown immense encouragement and hope for our students. Our dedicated staff, past and present, are truly treasure hunters, tirelessly seeking out the talents and gifts of each student. They have worked tirelessly to foster these talents in a safe yet rigorous academic environment that meets the diverse needs of every student.

I am deeply grateful for the collaborative spirit and dedication that have defined my tenure here not only in the Beaver Creek community, but also with individuals and organizations in Yavapai County and in Arizona. Together, we have strived to create a nurturing educational community where every child can thrive. I have full confidence that under Mrs. Wheeler's leadership, this district will continue to flourish and inspire.

Thank you once again for allowing me the honor of serving as your superintendent. As of July 1, I will transition to a consultant role for the district, supporting an exceptional leadership team who, in turn, will continue to support our staff, parents, and most importantly, our students. I look forward to witnessing the continued success and growth of Beaver Creek School District in the years to come.

I want to express my heartfelt thanks to the staff for the beautiful planter of flowers adorned with the painted prints of our students. Your thoughtful gift truly touched my heart.

As I approached my retirement, I chose not to have a formal celebration. Instead, I believe honoring my work through supporting the school’s financial needs would be most meaningful. I kindly ask that you consider making donations to the school for essential supplies such as school supplies, hygiene items, and contributions towards tax credits for field trips. Your generosity will have a lasting impact on our students' educational experiences.

To the past and present families, staff, community members, governing board members, students, and everyone who has been a part of Beaver Creek School District, I urge you to remember our motto: “Once a Creeker, Always a Creeker.” Your ongoing support and dedication have been the cornerstone of our community, and I am deeply grateful for each of you.

Thank you once again for your support and for making my time here so meaningful. I am confident that under Mrs. Allie Wheeler's leadership, our district will continue to thrive and grow.
