Project Camellia is making an $80 million commitment to Effingham County, and we want the people who know our community best to help shape where that investment goes.

Priority #1 is parks and recreation. The new Community Investment Feedback Form gives Effingham County residents an opportunity to rank potential investments, including walking and biking trails, playgrounds, a splash pad and an aquatic center.

Parks and recreation is only the first area of focus. On the survey, you can also vote on which community priority you’d like to see considered next.

The parks and recreation survey closes September 30, so we encourage you to share your feedback and pass it along to your friends and neighbors.

Effingham County property owners could see the largest property tax reduction in our county’s history.

Through the success of Project Camellia and a partnership between the Effingham County Industrial Development Authority, Board of Commissioners and School District, property owners could receive approximately 6 mills of combined property tax relief this year.

Here’s what you need to know:

- The ECIDA will suspend its 2-mill property tax levy for the duration of OpenAI’s tax abatement agreement.
- The Board of Commissioners will consider an additional approximately 2-mill county-wide reduction at its September 1 meeting.
- Funding will also support approximately 2 mills of relief for the Effingham County School District.

If the County millage reduction is approved September 1, it will also provide an immediate jumpstart to Project Zero, Effingham County’s long-term initiative to eliminate County homestead property taxes.

This marks an important step toward providing meaningful property tax relief for Effingham County families and property owners.
