AP Environmental Science students got hands-on today with an owl pellet dissection! Students identified the remains of prey to investigate predator-prey relationships and evaluate how energy moves through a food web.

Hands-on learning, collaboration, critical thinking, and maybe a few bones along the way. This is AP Environmental Science at ECCA.

At ECCA, we believe in hands-on learning, the 4 Cs, and teaching our students to THINK!

A walk through our classrooms today would have shown you:

🧪 Chemistry students completing a calorimetry lab
📚 AP Language students tackling a question trail and documenting evidence to support their claims
🌊 Physical Science students rotating through stations to investigate wave properties
🚗 Automotive students checking fluids and completing a mock vehicle inspection

Our students are collaborating, communicating, thinking critically, and applying what they learn in meaningful ways.

This is what we value.
This is what learning should look like.
This is STEM at ECCA!

So proud to have Landon at ECCA!

🌟 We’re excited to continue our Spotlight Series on young agricultural leaders who are making a meaningful impact in their schools and communities. Check Georgia Department of Agriculture for more features.

Landon Kessel is a student at Effingham College & Career Academy. Deeply impacted by the FFA program, Landon served as President of the Ebenezer Middle School chapter for two consecutive years.

His enthusiasm for agriculture has only continued, as he began exhibiting his first show goat this year in addition to building and operating his own greenhouse.

Landon’s dream is to earn a degree in Agricultural Law, using it to advocate for the ag community. His work ethic and leadership skills make him an outstanding representative of Georgia’s agricultural future.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and ECCA is proud to support CURE Childhood Cancer with our new “No One Fights Alone” shirts and sweatshirts!
A portion of the proceeds from each purchase will be donated to CURE to support their work with children and families impacted by childhood cancer.

Big things are happening through ECCA’s partnership with Georgia Tech!

Mr. Sinopoli and Mr. Exley attended today’s Rural CS meeting at Georgia Tech, where program facilitators repeatedly highlighted “our friends from Effingham” while discussing the accomplishments of the initiative over the past five years.

The impact of this work continues to grow. After hearing about our work at Honey Ridge last spring, Harmon Stinson from Hall County shared that he has chosen to base his doctoral thesis on the work taking place there and is planning a visit this spring.

Mr. Exley also connected ECCA students with David Peeler at GTRI for a Scientific Research project involving AI drones. That collaboration has now grown into the foundation for an AI for Good competition that will be introduced to 60 districts across Georgia!

We are incredibly proud of the opportunities this partnership continues to create for our students and the recognition it brings to ECCA and Effingham County. This is what happens when innovation, collaboration, and student opportunity come together!

Our monarchs are growing!

Our students have been taking great care of the monarch caterpillars in ECCA’s pollinator garden, and we expect them to begin metamorphosing this week!

Even more exciting, our milkweed is starting to flower. While checking it out with our Zoology class, students spotted 10 more monarch larvae munching away on the leaves! 🌿🐛

That means even more butterflies for our students to observe, learn from, and support through our Symbolic Migration Project this year.

We love watching our pollinator garden come to life!

🍀 Congratulations to our ECCA 4-H’ers!

We are so proud of our Knights who competed at the 83rd Annual Georgia 4-H State Congress in Atlanta!

🏆 Eli Usher, 10th grade, earned 1st place in Dog Care and Training and achieved the incredible honor of Master 4-H’er status!

🥈 Abbie Sulkowski, Class of 2026, earned 2nd place in Health.

🥈 Abigail Williamson, senior, earned 2nd place in Entomology.

👏 Jena Lee, 10th grade, delivered a fantastic presentation in Arts and Crafts.

These students represented ECCA and Effingham County exceptionally well at the state level. We are so proud of their hard work, dedication, and accomplishments!
