Dear Dan River District & Kentuck Elementary Friends
You are invited to a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and your input is needed on whether the Dan River District should pursue a library branch . . .
First, Kentuck Elementary School will hold a ribbon cutting for its new addition on Saturday, September 12, at 10 a.m., and you are invited.
This addition was made possible because you said โyesโ to a one-cent sales tax for school construction. Together, our community turned a vision into reality.
Second, would you support opening a branch library in the Dan River community? (see the background information included below)
If so, please share your feedback on placing a library branch in the Dan River community by completing the questionnaire at
https://forms.gle/CsN3DCfKZ1xUUK9w8
Thank you for considering the Kentuck Elementary ribbon cutting and for sharing your input on a possible library in our community.

Background
In 2017, a Dan River resident asked why the Pittsylvania County Library System did not have a branch in the Dan River district. That question sparked several conversations.
In March 2018, a group of interested individuals gathered at the Pittsylvania County History Research Center & Library to discuss the expansion of library services within Pittsylvania County. From this conversation, a work group continued to explore the idea of expanding library services and worked with Enteros Design as it completed a feasibility study. The 2019 study outlined the current services and facilities, defined the community value of library services, described the vision for expanded access, and presented a proposal for expanding library services to all areas of Pittsylvania County.

The vision for the Pittsylvania County Public Library system is to establish a library branch in each of the unserved regions (Dan River, Banister, and Staunton River). Each of these branches will become a community destination for early and family literacy, provide workforce resources, be a life-long learning center, deliver community health materials, and serve as a community gathering space supporting civic engagement.
For the past few years, a small group of community members has continued discussing the idea and searching for a suitable building site near the three Dan River schools. Today, we need your input.
